Political analyst Mark Halperin appeared on Newsmax’s “Carl Higbie: Frontline” Friday, where he highlighted increasing divisions within the Democratic Party following Joe Biden’s departure from the 2024 presidential race.
According to Halperin, the growing rift between establishment Democrats and the party’s far-left wing is now fueling internal confusion and conflict over its future direction.
Halperin suggested that the situation benefits President Donald Trump as his political opponents appear disorganized.

He pointed out that former presidents traditionally step away from the public stage after leaving office, but Biden’s exit has not followed that pattern.
“At some point, some higher power said we’re going to endow Donald Trump with the extraordinary luck in his enemies, and we’re gonna keep at it until he’s fighting the Bidens, AOC and Bernie Sanders forevermore,” Halperin said.
“Former presidents normally fade away. The circumstances under which Joe Biden left the stage seemed to reinforce the notion that he should stay off the stage. But it’s all the Bidens have ever known, and there is a big vacuum.”
Biden, who exited the presidential race after months of growing concern among Democratic leaders and donors, has indicated he does not plan to fully exit the political arena.

In February, he reportedly met with Democratic National Committee Chairman Ken Martin to express his interest in helping the party push back against President Trump.
According to sources, Biden is prepared to fundraise, campaign, and support Democratic candidates.
Since his withdrawal, Halperin said Democrats are facing increased uncertainty over who should lead the party moving forward.
He noted that the idea of Biden continuing to serve as a figurehead is not being welcomed by many Democrats.
“I could see why the Bidens think that someone needs to step in there, but it does not seem to any Democrat I talked to since that story ran that the Bidens are the answer, or whatever the question is about the problem of the Democratic Party,” Halperin said.
The analyst also pointed to the significant influence of far-left figures like Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
While their ideology poses challenges, Halperin noted that they are among the few who still generate excitement among the Democratic base.
“AOC and Bernie at least inspire people. They’re drawing crowds of thousands. They do have a following. I think they are part of whatever coalition the Democrats build. Not Chuck Schumer as much, but it’s just a fact that part of what’s happened to the Democratic Party is it’s moved to the far left where Sanders and AOC live ideologically, and that’s a problem, but any party needs the energy of its base. They have that,” Halperin said.
Biden’s exit from the 2024 race followed a widely criticized debate performance in June that sparked growing concern about his ability to defeat Trump.
As polling data showed Biden falling further behind, Democratic insiders increased pressure on him to step aside.
Now, with Biden no longer the nominee but still expressing interest in shaping the party’s future, Democrats face mounting questions over who will lead their fractured coalition in the upcoming election.
