An endorsement event for Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic nominee in the New York City mayoral race, was abruptly cut short Monday when the candidate was pulled offstage by a campaign aide, ending the press availability without explanation.

The event, held to highlight Mamdani’s latest endorsement from the American Federation of Musicians, Local 802, began as expected.

Mamdani accepted the endorsement and briefly answered questions from reporters, including inquiries about former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo’s decision to stay in the race as an independent candidate.

He also addressed a scheduled meeting with House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.

Approximately 20 minutes into the event, as Mamdani continued fielding questions, campaign staff abruptly ended the session.

“I think we’re done here. We’re going to go. Come on. We’re wrapping up, folks. Sorry folks. We’re wrapping up,” one staffer said, stepping in to clear the area and shut down further press interaction.

Mamdani attempted to remain at the podium to listen to additional questions from the press, but the noise of campaign staff and the live band playing “When the Saints Go Marching In” drowned out further conversation.

Smiling, Mamdani was eventually led away by a campaign aide who physically grabbed his arm and pulled him from the podium.

The sudden conclusion of the event came despite Mamdani’s recent pattern of engaging the media during campaign stops.

Since winning the Democratic nomination last month, Mamdani, 33, has maintained a packed campaign schedule.

He has appeared at multiple endorsement events, including one with the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) and another with Rep. Adriano Espaillat, D-N.Y.

At the conclusion of these past events, Mamdani’s campaign has typically opened the floor to questions from the press. Monday’s disruption marked a notable break from that pattern.

The incident took place just days ahead of Mamdani’s planned appearance alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday. Ocasio-Cortez, a self-described democratic socialist, endorsed Mamdani prior to his primary victory.

The joint event is expected to further solidify Mamdani’s position within the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

During Monday’s event, Mamdani confirmed that a meeting with Jeffries is scheduled for later this week. Jeffries separately confirmed to Fox News Digital that the meeting would take place at his residence in Brooklyn.

However, the House Minority Leader has yet to publicly endorse Mamdani’s candidacy since his primary win.

“I’m looking forward to that meeting with Congressman Jeffries,” Mamdani said during the brief press availability.

“I’m looking forward to being a partner to Congressman Jeffries in winning back the House and continuing to fight back against Donald Trump’s agenda, and in delivering, at the same time, for New Yorkers across the five boroughs.”

The incident has drawn questions from local reporters and observers, particularly given the Democratic nominee’s otherwise media-accessible campaign style in recent weeks.
