Democrats Are Stupider Than I Thought They Were Yesterday: Byron Donalds [WATCH]

A reporter pressed Rep. Byron Donalds on Capitol Hill about Democratic plans to introduce impeachment legislation against Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, citing recent actions tied to Minnesota.

“So first off, I know Democrats here, in a couple hours, are going to be introducing legislation to try and impeach the Department of Homeland Security Secretary, Kristi Noem, of course, this is coming after what was going to take place in Minnesota,” the reporter said.

“Why?” Donalds responded.

“I believe that she believes the Secretary is acting illegally,” the reporter said.

“I’m sorry, go ahead. What’s your question?” Donalds replied.

“I kind of just wanted to get you reaction to Democrats pledging this fight, and also this is in conjunction with the Progressive Caucus yesterday saying that they want to include funding from DHS until there are reforms in ICE,” the reporter said.

Donalds sharply criticized the effort, calling it misguided and politically driven.

“This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” Donalds said.

“Let’s get to the core of the issue. You are not allowed to start your vehicle drive your vehicle at a law enforcement official, whether it’s your local cop, your local sheriff, state troopers, ICE officers, Border Patrol agents, FBI agents, Secret Service agents, you’re not allowed to do that. If you use your vehicle as a weapon they will draw their weapon and respond and defend themselves. That’s what they’re trained to do. Every law enforcement officer in the country is trying to do.”

He continued, “If the Democrats now think that that’s cause for impatient impeachment, then they are stupider than I thought they were yesterday. This is dumb. This makes no sense. This is not helping anything. All it’s doing is creating a political divide in this country where one does not exist.”

Donalds said DHS and ICE were carrying out federal law.

“ICE and the Department of Homeland Security are doing a very novel thing. They are following federal immigration law. If you do not like that, change the law. But here’s the problem, the Democrats can’t guard him votes to change the vote.”

He added, “And by the way, if the Democrats made legal what Joe Biden was doing with border security and border enforcement, the Democrats would lose 50 seats in the House, and they would lose the United States Senate. That is a fact. How I know this, because Donald Trump won a political mandate in 2024 for the Department of Homeland Security and ICE to do its job.”

The reporter followed up: “So in short, you have full confidence in Secretary Noem.”

“Yes, I do,” Donalds said.

“Secretary Noem is doing it’s a tough job. She’s doing the best job that she can. I have full confidence in her ability to continue to do that.”

Donalds contrasted current enforcement with prior Democratic leadership.

“But when you have colleagues up here on Capitol Hill who want to play not even Monday morning quarterback, they want to play Thursday morning quarterback, thinking that they know better, when the truth is, when the Democrats were in charge, more than 10 million illegal aliens came into this country.”

He continued, “We had young girls in our country who were being raped and murdered by illegal aliens. There were young girls who were being sold into sex slavery by the drug cartels who were not American citizens. They were coming into our country illegally, being trafficked by the drug cartels, and then the girls that the drug cartels wanted were sold into sex slavery. That’s a fact. I don’t hear any Democrat politicians talking about that. And those were human tragedies, real human tragedies.”

Donalds also referenced drug trafficking.

“Not to mention the fact that the drug cartels were abusing Democrat policy at the border to traffic fentanyl into the United States, which was the number one killer of everybody in our country between the ages of 18 and 45 not heart attacks, not car accidents, fentanyl overdoses.”

“So I’m not listening to them,” he said.

“They had their opportunity to lead this country. They failed by any measure. And then they’re going to lecture Christine on please. Who are they gonna bring back the last guy that was running Homeland Security, that clown who lied to Congress multiple times saying a border was secured when everybody was common sense. Their own two eyes knows that it was not. These people have lost it. They have lost the plot, not listening to it.”

The reporter then shifted topics.

“And on another subject, Iran, Greenland, of course, the President is talking about military action in both of those countries, I guess. Where are you standing when it comes to the President saying that he wants to purchase Greenland? For instance, there’s a critical argument there that the President is making.”

“Oh, I think Greenland, there is some strategic importance to the United States,” Donalds said.

“Second thing I would tell people is, let the President look, I think if we’re going to look at his foreign policy decisions compared to those of, let’s say, Joe Biden, or even those of Barack Obama, or even those of George W Bush, his foreign policy decisions have actually been correct. They’ve actually put America in a stronger position.”

He added, “And I would let the Greenland situation play out and let the President essentially do his work with Secretary of State, Marco Rubio.”

Turning to Iran, Donalds said, “When it comes to Iran, we have been at this place before. Back in 2009 there was a Green Revolution in Iran. Then President Barack Obama did not pay any lip service or give any support to those protesters in Tehran who wanted to overthrow the Ayatollah in Iran, which, by the way, is a murderous theocratic dictatorship. That is what Iran is today.”

He continued, “We could have dealt with this in 2009 Barack Obama did nothing to help those to help those people on the ground who wanted to free Iran and one of the Democratic Republic in Iran.”

Donalds said the situation had returned.

“And we’re at this opportunity again, President Trump, I think, yesterday, he came out in strong support of the protesters, in strong support of actually having an open and fair society. In Iran, not the theocratic despotism that exists today.”

He said, “And I think that the American people should support the president. I’m not going to go as far as military strikes, because I’m not going to get in front of the President. I don’t have all the information that he has.”

“What I would tell the American people is they need to trust the Commander in Chief,” Donalds said.

“Because let’s, let’s play this out. We do nothing. What happens in Iran? The Ayatollahs remain. Women continue to be victimized. Any woman who steps out of line is either beat, raped, thrown into a river or killed. Does that sound like a country we want operating in the world?”

“I’m not trying to be the world’s police,” he added.

“I totally disagree with the Iranian regime, but there’s an opportunity to help the people of Iran have the same freedoms and liberties that we have here in the United States, I think the world would say that’s a good thing.”
