The Democratic National Committee (DNC) faced widespread backlash on Thursday after posting — and then quickly deleting — a graphic on social media that inadvertently underscored the dramatic rise in grocery prices during Joe Biden’s presidency.
The now-deleted post, published by the official DNC account @TheDemocrats on X, featured a graph tracking the price increases of various grocery categories — including cheese, alcohol, dairy, produce, and meat — dating back to October 2019.
The sharpest increases began around January 2021, which marked the beginning of Biden’s term in office. Despite this, the post was captioned “Trump’s America.”

The post did not cite the source of the pricing data.
The graphic, however, visually contradicted the message of the post. It clearly showed a significant spike in prices shortly after Biden entered office.

The portion of the graph covering the Trump administration reflected relatively stable prices, occupying only a small section of the chart.
The Trump administration’s own rapid response team responded to the post by resharing it and adding a “Biden” label with arrows pointing to the steep price increases.

That response effectively emphasized that the surge in costs occurred almost entirely during Biden’s presidency, not under President Trump.
Online users quickly took notice and criticized the post as a political misstep.
Social media personality Matthew Rosario wrote, “I don’t know … Kinda looks like Biden’s America.”

Conservative commentator Kyle Becker called the post “one of the dumbest posts in @X history,” adding that the DNC deleted it “after getting ratioed into oblivion.”

Another user, posting under the name “Greg,” remarked, “This might be the biggest self-own I’ve ever seen on this website.”

The criticism stemmed from what many interpreted as an inadvertent admission by the Democratic Party that Biden’s policies contributed to historic levels of inflation.
During Biden’s presidency, the U.S. saw its highest inflation rates since the early 1980s, with a peak annual inflation rate of 9.1% recorded in June 2022, approximately a year and a half after he took office.
According to federal data, the cost of food increased more than 22% from January 2021 to the end of Biden’s term.
In contrast, under President Trump, food prices have risen by only about 0.6% since January.
The post’s swift deletion and the rapid criticism that followed underscore the continued political sensitivity around inflation and economic conditions, which have remained a central concern for voters.
The episode also highlights the difficulties Democrats have faced in controlling the economic narrative, especially when visual data appears to contradict their messaging.
