What is wrong with the Democratic Party? That’s not a rhetorical question. The average voter could rattle off a list longer than the Magna Carta. The party has its lowest favorability ever. They don’t have a populist star. Young voters are increasingly conservative. You get the idea. But top Democrats aren’t consulting the average voter. They’re consulting the same people who gently ushered them over a cliff in the 2024 election cycle.

Once upon a time, this sort of rhetoric might have swayed a guilt-ridden fence-sitter. That time has passed. Democrats face a critical decision. Do they ever want to win another election? If so, they need to make a critical pivot – not just in message, but in form. A tentative plan is shaping up within the party.
