Democrats have been living in a state of manic euphoria since Tuesday night as they earned double-digit gubernatorial victories in New Jersey and Virginia, as well as a mayoral victory in New York City. But after every high there will be a low, and their new plan to go after deep-red Republican states almost guarantees a devastating crash.
These Democratic wins took place in either purple states, which typically trend towards Democrats, or in deep blue areas where Republicans have little to no chance of winning. While there are several takeaways for Republicans in these races, Democrats should just be thankful for the victories. Instead, they seem to be interpreting these results as a systemic shift, fueling plans to aggressively expand their 2026 Senate and House midterm map into deep-red Republican territory.
