Former Clinton pollster Mark Penn warned Friday on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle that the Democratic Party’s support among voters is rapidly declining, describing the drop as “falling off a cliff.”

His comments come as the party struggles to find its footing after former Vice President Kamala Harris’ loss in the 2024 presidential election.

Speaking with host Laura Ingraham, Penn previewed polling data set to be released on February 24, indicating a sharp decline in the Democratic Party’s favorability.

“Well, I’ve got some new polling coming out Monday that I’ve just looked at. Frankly, the Democratic Party is falling off a cliff,” Penn said. “The ratings, which were in the high 40s, are gonna be like 35%.”

Penn noted that in a head-to-head comparison between former President Joe Biden and President Donald Trump, voters are increasingly siding with Trump.

“I think the basic question, ‘Who’s doing a better job as president, Biden or Trump?’ Trump is winning that with 57%,” he said.

“I think you’re seeing a retrospective assessment of Biden and the direction the Democratic Party was going. It really [is] a lot more negative than it was on election day.”

Since Harris’ defeat, Democrats have faced mounting concerns over their messaging and voter outreach.

Harris’ campaign struggled to resonate with key voting blocs, and polling data shows that she failed to gain traction on major issues such as the economy, inflation, and immigration.

During the campaign, Harris and her team escalated their attacks on Trump, branding him a “fascist,” but the strategy failed to translate into voter support.

Post-election polling from The New York Times revealed that Harris received seven million fewer votes than Biden did in 2020. She also lost three of the seven key swing states and fell short in 80% of counties across the country.

Following Harris’ defeat, Biden reflected on the election results in an interview with The Wall Street Journal, stating that he believed he could have won in November “based on the polling” had he remained in the race.

Biden withdrew from the election in July 2024, paving the way for Harris to become the Democratic nominee.

Despite Biden’s claims, his approval ratings remained low as he exited office.

According to a final CBS News poll before his departure, Biden left the White House with a 37% approval rating, while 63% of respondents disapproved of his job performance.

Penn emphasized that voters are reassessing their views on the Democratic Party, particularly on key policy areas.

“They’re looking at the contrast on immigration, on economic policy, on some of the social policies. And boy, they’re reevaluating the Democratic Party, I have never seen anything like this,” he said.

“This is a record low for the Democratic Party in terms of favorability. It has fallen really, really way down. I don’t think there’s any leadership right now that’s gonna be able to bring that back.”

As Democrats attempt to regroup, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) convened on February 1 to select a new party chair.

The committee chose Ken Martin, chairman of the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, to lead the DNC moving forward.

Following his selection, Martin dismissed concerns that the party’s policies were to blame for its struggles.

Instead, he argued that Democrats need to improve their messaging.

“I don’t think it’s our policies that are the problem,” Martin told The New York Times.

“We have to do a better job of communicating them.”

With Trump back in the White House and the Democratic Party’s approval ratings reaching new lows, party leadership faces mounting pressure to address voter dissatisfaction and rebuild its political standing.
