Multiple Democrats are facing criminal charges related to election fraud in cases dating back to 2021, despite their party’s continued dismissal of election integrity concerns raised by Republicans.

In Connecticut, five Democratic Party members from Bridgeport and Stratford have been charged with various voter fraud offenses related to mail-in ballots.

Meanwhile, in Pennsylvania, three Democratic politicians in the Philadelphia suburb of Millbourne were indicted by a federal grand jury for illegally casting fraudulent mail-in ballots in a 2021 mayoral race.

In Bridgeport, Democratic officials have faced scrutiny over ballot harvesting allegations, which led to both primary and general election re-dos last year.

The Connecticut Secretary of the State’s office has since referred multiple election fraud complaints to the State Elections Enforcement Commission.

Bridgeport Democratic Town Committee Vice Chairperson Wanda Geter-Pataky, along with City Council Members Alfredo Castillo, Jazmarie Melendez, and Maria Pereira, were all criminally charged, along with an unidentified woman from Stratford.

Geter-Pataky faces the most charges—92 in total—including 42 counts of Possession of Ballots and Envelopes Restricted.

Other charges among the group include fraudulent voting, improperly assisting voters with filling out ballots, and misrepresenting eligibility for absentee voting.

Both Geter-Pataky and Castillo were also previously charged in 2019 for taking possession of absentee ballots during Bridgeport’s Democratic mayoral primary.

Connecticut Chief State’s Attorney Patrick Griffin stated, “The Office of the Chief State’s Attorney takes allegations of voter fraud seriously, and I commend the Statewide Prosecution Bureau’s investigative efforts that resulted in these arrests. To protect the integrity of our voting process in Connecticut, it is important that our elections are fair and free from fraudulent activity and criminal intent.”

Pereira, speaking outside the police station after her arrest, said she intends to fight the case in court.

Castillo’s attorney stated that his client plans to plead not guilty. Melendez’s attorney denied the charges, calling them “baseless” and claiming Melendez is being targeted for “political retribution.”

The accused individuals are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on March 6.

Connecticut Democratic Party Chairman Roberto Alves released a statement following the arrests, saying, “If individuals are found guilty of election-related violations, they will be held accountable and have no place in party leadership.”

In Millbourne, Pennsylvania, a federal grand jury indicted three Democratic officials on Tuesday for attempting to manipulate the 2021 mayoral election by casting fraudulent mail-in ballots.

The individuals charged are:

  • Mohammed Nurul Hasan, then-vice president of the borough council
  • Mohammed Munsur Ali, a Democratic primary winner for borough council
  • Mohammed Rafikul Islam, a former council member seeking re-election

The indictment alleges that Hasan, who lost the 2021 Democratic mayoral primary but ran as a write-in candidate in the general election, conspired with Ali and Islam to illegally register non-residents to vote.

According to federal prosecutors, Hasan and Ali encouraged non-residents to register in Millbourne, telling them “they would not get in trouble as long as they did not vote in another election in November 2021.”

Some voters were reportedly registered in Millbourne without their knowledge.

The trio is accused of forging voter signatures on return envelopes before submitting ballots to the Delaware County elections board.

They face charges including fraudulent voter registration, false information in registering, and conspiracy.

Islam’s attorney, Robert Keller, said his client had a “minor” role in the scheme and has agreed to surrender himself to authorities.

“He has no prior record. He’s a U.S. citizen. He’s lived an honorable life, and we’re going to do everything we can to protect his interests and see what kind of case the government has,” Keller stated.

Delaware County elections director Jim Allen told the Philadelphia Inquirer that these prosecutions should serve as a deterrent.

“I view this as evidence that investigators are not going to let passage of time or the lack of an impact on the election result prevent them from pursuing the case, however long it takes,” Allen said.

Despite these cases, Democrats have repeatedly dismissed election fraud concerns raised by Republicans.

Many in the party have labeled those who question election security as “election deniers.”

However, Democrats have themselves made election fraud claims in the past.

Twice-failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has repeatedly stated that the 2016 election was “stolen” from her, even calling President Donald Trump an “illegitimate president.”

Additionally, Democrats have sued each other over alleged election fraud as recently as 2023, further contradicting their stance that election fraud is a non-issue.

These latest indictments in Connecticut and Pennsylvania raise further concerns over election security, particularly regarding mail-in ballots—a method of voting that has been heavily promoted by Democrats in recent elections.

The cases will now proceed through the legal system as courts determine the extent of fraud committed in these elections.
