Dems Ilhan Omar and Mehdi Hasan Smear Charlie Kirk After Assassination, Bring Up George Floyd [WATCH]

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and commentator Mehdi Hasan criticized the way Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is being remembered following his assassination, calling claims about his role in fostering civil debate a “rewriting of history.”

Their comments came during Hasan’s podcast, recorded days after Kirk was shot and killed while addressing students at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.

Kirk, 31, was assassinated Wednesday during a “Prove Me Wrong” campus event.

Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who was later charged with Kirk’s murder.

Robinson was taken into custody after his father turned him in to law enforcement.

On Hasan’s program, Omar argued that Kirk should not be remembered as someone devoted to civil discourse.

“Charlie was someone who was willing to debate and downplay the death of George Floyd in the hands of Minneapolis Police,” she said.

Hasan interjected, reminding her, “I think he called him a scumbag,” to which Omar agreed.

Omar continued by referencing Kirk’s past positions.

“Right, have no regard. Downplay slavery and what black people have gone through in this country by saying Juneteenth should never exist. And I think you know that there are a lot of people who are out there talking about him just wanting to have a civil debate,” she said.

Hasan followed up by rejecting current tributes to Kirk’s debating style.

He claimed that describing him as an advocate for open discussion was a “complete rewriting of history.”

Omar agreed, saying it was “effed up” to “completely pretend that you know his words and actions have not been recorded, and in existence for the last decade.”

Following Kirk’s death, Omar also reposted a video from a social media account that labeled him a “stochastic terrorist.”

The video accused Kirk of supporting the “subjugation of women” and implied his rhetoric, along with that of Republicans more broadly, contributed to his assassination.

Those claims contrast with law enforcement findings.

Authorities say Robinson acted alone and was directly responsible for Kirk’s killing.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox described the attack as a political assassination. Investigators continue to analyze the suspect’s background, writings, and motives.

The assassination occurred as Kirk was engaging in debate with students, a hallmark of his speaking tours across college campuses.

His American Comeback Tour events often featured public question-and-answer sessions where he challenged critics to present opposing viewpoints.

Kirk’s killing has sparked widespread reaction across the political spectrum.

President Donald Trump announced that Kirk will be posthumously awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom and said he will attend the funeral in Arizona.

Vigils for Kirk have been held across the country, including in Michigan and Arizona.

Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder and other counts related to the shooting.

He remains in custody as federal and state prosecutors continue building the case.

In the meantime, tributes continue from supporters, while debate persists over his legacy and the political climate surrounding his assassination.
