A convicted fentanyl dealer who had already been booted from the country found herself in handcuffs once more, breaking down in tears as Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents took her into custody in Philadelphia, as reported by The New York Post.

Virginia Basora-Gonzalez, 36, a Dominican national, was arrested last Wednesday, captured in emotional photos as she sobbed while being led away in cuffs.

Federal authorities issued a warrant for her arrest the same day they prepared to reinstate her deportation order.

ICE confirmed she will remain in federal custody pending prosecution for illegal re-entry after being deported, an offense that should have been impossible had border security been taken seriously in the first place.

Acting Field Office Director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in Philadelphia, Brian McShane, said:

“The apprehension of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities from criminal aliens who engage in serious illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety. This successful joint operation exemplifies the collaborative efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and remove dangerous individuals from our streets.”

Basora-Gonzalez first made headlines in June 2019 when the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested her in Pennsylvania for possessing 40 grams or more of fentanyl and aiding and abetting.

Instead of receiving a lengthy sentence fitting the severity of her crime, she was handed a mere 12 months and one day behind bars, along with four years of supervised release.

The old Augusta County Jail in downtown Staunton, which closed in 2006. The old jail is still inside the Augusta County District Courts Building and cells like these are still on the upper floors.

But instead of serving her sentence, she was deported to the Dominican Republic in October 2020.

That should have been the end of her story in America, but thanks to open border chaos, Basora-Gonzalez managed to sneak back into the country at an unknown date.

She successfully avoided detection until March 7, 2025, when a confidential informant tipped off authorities about her illegal return.

Agents tracked her down outside her job at La Tierra Del Caribe Restaurant in North Philadelphia, where she was allegedly working as a cook.

After confirming her identity through the FBI fingerprint database, ICE agents moved in and placed her under arrest.

Despite her history of trafficking deadly opioids and violating U.S. immigration laws, her court-appointed attorney argued that she shouldn’t be detained before trial, laughably insisting that illegal re-entry didn’t make her a flight risk.

The government wasn’t buying it and countered by making the case that her past conviction and deportation history “cement the conclusion that pretrial detention is required.”

Perhaps next time, federal officials will ensure she stays out of the country for good.
