Kristi Noem announced a new holiday-season initiative encouraging individuals who are in the United States illegally to voluntarily return to their home countries, outlining financial assistance and travel support for those who choose to leave before being detained.
Speaking about the program, Noem said it is timed with the Christmas season and applies to individuals who have not been detained or who have interacted with authorities but do not face criminal charges.
She said the initiative is designed to provide an opportunity to leave the country legally, which may not be available later.
“Well, it’s home for the holidays season. So you know, not only are we returning those kiddos back to their families that Biden lost, we also are saying that if you voluntarily want to go home now to your country, if you’re in this United States of America illegally, we will give you $3,000 through the holidays to send you home,” Noem said.
Noem said the program includes travel arrangements and a financial incentive for participants who voluntarily depart.
“We’ll buy you a ticket, give you $3,000 to go home,” Noem said.
She said the offer applies to individuals who have not been detained and those who have interacted with authorities but are not facing criminal charges.

“And that includes people that have not been detained, maybe have interacted with us, are detained and don’t have criminal charges against them, raise your hand. We’ll help you get home. We’ll facilitate it,” Noem said.
Noem said those who take advantage of the program may preserve the possibility of returning to the United States legally in the future.
“And you might get the chance to come back to this country the right way someday,” Noem said.
She warned that individuals who wait until they are detained and deported by authorities would lose that opportunity.
“If you wait until we interdict you and detain you and arrest you and have to deport you ourselves. You’ll never get the chance to come back,” Noem said.
Noem directed those interested in the program to use an official government application to begin the process.
“So go on the CBP Home app and get the information, and we’ll make sure you get home in time for Christmas,” Noem said.
