Anthony Weiner, the former Democratic congressman who resigned in 2011 following a series of high-profile sexting scandals, is attempting a political comeback by running for a seat on New York City’s Council, as reported by Fox News.

During a recent appearance on a YouTube podcast hosted by comedian Adam Friedland, Weiner addressed his past controversies and claimed that his scandal would receive less attention if it happened today.

Weiner, who is campaigning to represent Manhattan’s East Side District 2, joked during the interview that “women are crazy about me,” even after serving 21 months in federal prison and being required to register as a sex offender.

“Oh for sure, for sure, my god, they’re crazy about me. Women are crazy about me,” Weiner said, responding to Friedland’s question about whether political power increases a man’s appeal.

Weiner’s original sexting scandal surfaced more than a decade ago when he accidentally posted a sexually suggestive photo of himself to one of his public social media accounts.

The image led to his resignation from Congress in 2011. Subsequent investigations revealed a pattern of explicit communications with multiple women, culminating in his 2017 conviction for transferring obscene material to a minor.

Friedland suggested during the interview that if Weiner’s scandal had broken in 2025, it wouldn’t have made the “top 100” news stories of the year.

Weiner agreed, saying, “It was a relatively slow news period,” and noted that his name contributed to the scandal’s visibility.

“I’m a guy named Weiner who tweeted out a picture of his d**k.”

The conversation also touched on former Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who has denied allegations that he was involved in sexual misconduct with a minor.

Friedland questioned why Gaetz’s case didn’t draw as much media attention, to which Weiner quipped, “Right, and if his name was Matt Kidf**ker then the story would have,” before Friedland interrupted.

Weiner also discussed how his scandal may have had broader political implications.

During the FBI’s investigation into his criminal behavior, agents reportedly discovered emails that led then-FBI Director James Comey to reopen the agency’s investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server just days before the 2016 election.

Other parts of the interview focused on Weiner’s experience in prison, his registration as a sex offender, frequent confusion with former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, and his connections to other local Democrats.

Weiner is now running in the Democratic primary for New York City Council and is seeking a return to public office after more than a decade away from politics.
