Disney’s upcoming live-action remake of Snow White continues to face intense criticism, with both of its official trailers surpassing one million dislikes on YouTube.
The backlash against the film has been fueled by controversy surrounding its lead actress, Rachel Zegler, as well as creative decisions that have drawn widespread pushback.
The first teaser for Snow White, released in mid-2024, was met with an overwhelmingly negative response.

To date, the video has received over 1.4 million dislikes compared to just over 101,000 likes.
The situation did not improve with the December release of the official trailer, which accumulated more than one million dislikes while garnering only 40,530 likes.
A special preview clip featuring one of Zegler’s musical performances has also been trending in a negative direction.
Since its December release, the video has received 4,900 likes and 43,885 dislikes, signaling continued audience disapproval.
Adding to the situation, a parody video mocking the backlash and incorporating fan complaints into a heavy metal song has gained traction online, amassing nearly as many likes as Disney’s official promotional content.
Reports indicate that Snow White has undergone multiple reshoots and script revisions, causing its budget to balloon to an estimated $300 million.
The film would need a significant box office return to recoup production costs, a scenario that appears increasingly unlikely given the ongoing backlash.
Criticism of the film began in early 2023 when images of the reimagined Seven Dwarfs surfaced, revealing a multiracial group of actors, with only one of them having dwarfism.
The move drew immediate criticism from advocates for actors with dwarfism, including Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage, who called the decision “f—ing backwards.”
Initially, Disney denied the authenticity of the images but later admitted they were from the original concept before the studio altered course in response to public outcry.

While creative decisions sparked early criticism, much of the backlash has been intensified by statements made by the film’s star, Rachel Zegler.
Over the past year, Zegler has made numerous comments dismissing the original 1937 Snow White, calling it “misogynistic” and emphasizing that the remake would be a modern feminist reinterpretation.
It just gets worse and worse….

Beyond her comments on the film, Zegler has also courted controversy with political statements.
In the aftermath of the 2020 election, she posted multiple Instagram stories denouncing then-President Donald Trump and his supporters, writing, “May Trump supporters and Trump voters and Trump himself never know peace.”
She further described Trump voters as part of a “deep, deep sickness in this country.”

Following backlash, Zegler later attempted to walk back her statements.

More recently, in August 2024, she sparked additional controversy by posting “Free Palestine” on social media while promoting Snow White, drawing criticism from various groups and further fueling tensions surrounding the film.

With Snow White set for a March 2025 release, Disney faces an uphill battle in reversing public sentiment.
The combination of production issues, online backlash, and ongoing controversies surrounding Zegler has created significant challenges for the film ahead of its debut.
