The fate of deposed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro is in the hands of 92-year-old U.S. District Judge Alvin Hellerstein. Hellerstein oversaw Maduro’s arraignment on Monday in Manhattan, where Maduro and his wife reportedly pleaded not guilty to drug trafficking charges.
Maduro alleged that he had been “kidnapped” from his home in Caracas, according to Politico. This protest appeared to fall on deaf ears. Hellerstein reportedly interrupted Maduro, saying they would consider “the legal sufficiency of what was done” another time.
