DOGE Insider Drops IRS Boondoggle Bombshells, Billions in Waste [WATCH]

A senior official with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) exposed major operational and financial failures inside the Internal Revenue Service during an interview on Thursday, as the federal agency continues to face scrutiny in the middle of tax season.

Sam Corcos, special adviser to the U.S. Treasury Department, joined Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle to reveal findings from DOGE’s internal review of the IRS.

According to Corcos, outside contractors and special interest groups are consuming the majority of the IRS’s $3.5 billion annual budget, leaving the agency decades behind on modernization efforts.

“When the Department of Government Efficiency dug into the matter, they found entrenched outside groups wrapped around the beleaguered IRS’s processes ‘like boa constrictors,’” Corcos said.

Corcos explained that he was tasked with evaluating the IRS’s modernization program and its operations and maintenance budget.

He said the effort to bring the agency’s infrastructure up to date is currently 30 years behind schedule and $15 billion over budget.

“I have been brought in to look at the IRS’ modernization program, in particular, as well as the operations and maintenance budget,” Corcos told host Laura Ingraham.

“I really care a lot about this country, and this is a huge program that is currently 30 years behind schedule and it’s already $15 billion over budget.”

The modernization initiative began after Congress approved funding in the early 1990s to overhaul the IRS’s aging computer systems and bring them in line with modern technology already implemented by private financial institutions.

However, Corcos said the project has been stuck in perpetual delay.

“We’re now 35 years into this program. If you ask them now, it’s five years away, and it’s been five years away since 1990. It was supposed to be delivered in 1996, and it’s still five years away,” he said.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, appointed by President Donald Trump, also appeared on the program to discuss the situation.

Bessent emphasized the scale of entrenched influence and waste inside the IRS.

“One of the biggest surprises for me is just seeing how these entrenched interests, they just keep constricting themselves around the power, around the money, around the systems, and nobody cares,” Bessent said.

“Many of the employees are fantastic. It’s this consultant group. They’re like a boa constrictor. They’re like a python,” he added.

“They’ve constricted themselves around our government, and the costs are unbelievable. They’re being passed on to the American taxpayer.”

Both Corcos and Bessent pushed back on criticism that DOGE is recklessly downsizing the federal government and jeopardizing Americans’ privacy.

Bessent argued that their work is focused on improving government operations, not eliminating them.

“The entrenched interests, the consultants, the Democrats, mainstream media, they just want to blow this project out of the water,” Bessent told Ingraham.

“This is the opposite of government efficiency, not elimination, not extinction. Sam and his crew are making it more efficient to work for the American people. So what’s wrong with it working better, cheaper, faster, and with more privacy?”

Bessent outlined his top priorities for IRS reform: collections, privacy, and customer service.

“We want people to feel satisfied that they are getting the service they deserve, that they’re paying their fair share and not more, not less,” Bessent said.

“And that it’s done quickly, smartly and privately.”

The Treasury team continues to audit and assess inefficiencies within the IRS as DOGE pursues broader reforms aimed at improving taxpayer experiences while reducing the burden of bloated government contracts.
