The U.S. Department of Justice announced Thursday that a Maryland man has been charged with multiple federal crimes related to threats made against U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, her family, and her staff, as reported by GOP USA.

Seth Jason, of Edgewater, Maryland, is accused of placing eight threatening phone calls to Greene’s congressional offices in Rome and Dalton, Georgia, between October 11, 2023, and January 21, 2025.

According to the DOJ, several of those calls were traced to Voice of America (VOA) facilities, where Jason had previously been employed.

Jason faces four separate charges: influencing a federal official by threatening a family member, influencing a federal official by threat, interstate communication with a threat to kidnap or injure, and anonymous telecommunications harassment.

The first two charges each carry a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. The charge for interstate threats carries a maximum of five years, and the anonymous harassment charge carries a maximum of two years.

The U.S. Capitol Police were involved in the investigation and confirmed that at least some of the threatening communications originated from studios and control rooms within Voice of America, which is a federally funded international broadcasting service.

Rep. Greene, a Republican representing Georgia’s 14th District, has previously been the target of other threats. In December 2024, local law enforcement responded to a bomb threat made via email against her residence in Rome, Georgia.

The threat claimed there was an explosive device in her mailbox.

Tragically, a 66-year-old woman was killed in a car accident involving a bomb squad officer who was en route to Greene’s residence. “These violent political threats have fatal consequences.

Oxnard police were investigating gunfire around Southwinds Park that reportedly left several teens injured Tuesday night, March 4, 2025.

It’s an undue strain on our law enforcement who must treat them seriously,” Greene said in a statement on social media following the incident. “The officer was responding to protect my life. And now, a woman has lost her life because of this despicable act.”

This case is not the first instance of someone facing federal charges for threatening Greene. In July 2024, Sean Patrick Cirillo pleaded guilty to similar charges.

Cirillo was sentenced in November to time served for five months in federal custody and an additional three years of supervised release.

As of now, Jason has not entered a plea. The DOJ did not provide additional details regarding his employment status at VOA at the time of the alleged calls.

The case remains under investigation.
