The Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed in a memorandum late Tuesday night that only two total witnesses testified before grand juries in the Jeffery Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell cases.
Testimony in front of the two grand juries in New York also largely matched what was later shared at trial, the DOJ claimed, according to a copy of the memo obtained by the Washington Examiner.
🧵Late last night, DOJ filed responses in both the Epstein and Maxwell cases, addressing each judge’s questions regarding the unsealing of grand jury materials.
DOJ also submitted the following ex parte and under seal:

“Here, there was one witness — an FBI agent — during the Epstein grand jury proceedings,” the memo states. “There were two witnesses — the same FBI agent from the Epstein grand jury proceedings and a detective with the NYPD who was a Task Force Officer with the FBI’s Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force — during the Maxwell grand jury proceedings.” (RELATED: Trump Noncommittal When Asked About Ghislaine Maxwell Pardon)
The memo further states that many of the victims, whose accounts were shared with grand juries by the law enforcement witnesses, provided testimony during trial. The DOJ notes that it is requesting redactions of information that could identify victims, particularly for those who did not testify at trial or whose accounts were not shared at trial.
“Many of the victims whose accounts relating to Epstein and Maxwell that were the subject of grand jury testimony testified at trial consistent with the accounts described by an FBI agent and the detective from the New York City Police Department (“NYPD”) in the grand jury and some have also made public those factual accounts in civil litigation,” the memo says.
The DOJ memo was filed in response to a judge in the Southern District of New York setting a deadline for the department to explain why grand jury materials related to Epstein and Maxwell should be unsealed. President Donald Trump earlier this month requested the DOJ to move forward with trying to release the documents. The DOJ acknowledged that it initially made no effort to contact or notify the victims mentioned in the grand jury transcripts. However, the government says it has since notified all but one of those victims.
The court also directed the government to prepare an index with brief summaries, page counts, dates and a proposed full set of all redacted grand jury transcripts and related materials, including exhibits.
