Donald Trump Responds to Mamdani Reaching Out Following Heated NYC Race [WATCH]

President Donald Trump said Sunday that New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is expected to visit the White House for a meeting following his election win earlier this month, as reported by Fox News.

Trump told reporters that Mamdani had reached out to the White House expressing interest in a meeting, and the president indicated that plans are underway.

“We’ll work something out,” Trump said when asked about the timing. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt later confirmed that no date has been set for a meeting but acknowledged the outreach from Mamdani’s office.

Trump made the comments while preparing to return to Washington from Florida, saying:

“The mayor of New York, I will say, would like to meet with us, and we’ll work something out. But he would like to come to Washington and meet, and we’ll work something out. We want to see everything work out well for New York.”

The possible meeting comes after a contentious campaign in which Trump sharply criticized Mamdani. In the closing days before the election, Trump opposed Mamdani’s candidacy and endorsed former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo instead.

He repeatedly labeled Mamdani a “communist” and pointed to concerns involving Trump’s immigration agenda.

On Election Day, Trump wrote, “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self-professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!”

He continued urging voters to support Cuomo, stating, “Whether you personally like Andrew Cuomo or not, you really have no choice. You must vote for him, and hope he does a fantastic job. He is capable of it, Mamdani is not!”

Mamdani has pledged to resist Trump’s national immigration policies at the city level, setting up an early confrontation between New York City’s incoming leadership and the White House.

In response, Trump has said federal funding could be at risk if Mamdani does not comply with national policy priorities.

Earlier this month, Trump warned, “If Communist Candidate Zohran Mamdani wins the Election for Mayor of New York City, it is highly unlikely that I will be contributing Federal Funds, other than the very minimum as required, to my beloved first home, because of the fact that, as a Communist, this once great City has ZERO chance of success, or even survival!”

He added, “It can only get worse with a Communist at the helm, and I don’t want to send, as President, good money after bad. It is my obligation to run the Nation, and it is my strong conviction that New York City will be a Complete and Total Economic and Social Disaster should Mamdani win.”

The White House has not provided additional details on the potential meeting or whether federal funding discussions will be part of the agenda.
