An 11-year-old granddaughter of Dr. Mehmet Oz fainted in the Oval Office on Friday during a White House event where Oz was officially sworn in as the new Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).

As Fox News reported, the incident briefly interrupted President Donald Trump’s press conference, which was underway at the time.

Philomena “Philo” Jovanovic, daughter of Daphne Oz, collapsed near the Resolute Desk shortly after her grandfather was sworn in by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. President Trump had been answering questions related to Iran’s nuclear ambitions when the medical episode occurred.

“Philo fainted, Philo fainted. Dad, go!” a voice was heard shouting as press cameras rolled. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt promptly instructed the media to exit the room while Daphne Oz, a former co-host of ABC’s The Chew, tended to her daughter.

Footage showed Daphne guiding her daughter away from the Resolute Desk and supporting her as the press was ushered out.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, Daphne Oz addressed the incident publicly, writing, “We are so grateful it was nothing serious, and she bounced right back — with a trip for some delicious Navy Mess soft serve for good measure!!”

She thanked the White House medical team for their immediate care and expressed appreciation for President Trump’s personal attention during the unexpected situation.

“Most of all, thank you to President Trump who went out of his way to make both our children feel comfortable in a stressful situation,” she wrote. “He was exceedingly warm, caring and generous as he spent personal time with each of them at the Resolute Desk and gifted them treasures to take home.”

Dr. Oz also issued a statement on X, saying, “Thank you to everyone who has checked in on our granddaughter Philomena… I am grateful to report she recovered quickly and was treated to delicious Navy Mess soft serve and some very special time speaking with President Trump.”

Dr. Oz, who previously ran for U.S. Senate in Pennsylvania as a Republican in 2022, was nominated by President Trump to lead CMS, which oversees the federal programs Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

He was confirmed by the Senate in a 53-45 vote on April 3.

Oz previously hosted The Dr. Oz Show for 13 years before entering politics.
