El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele responded Monday evening to comments made by Hunter Biden in a recent podcast interview in which Biden suggested invading El Salvador if the country refused to cooperate with deportation orders under a hypothetical future administration led by him.

Bukele, a key partner in President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement initiatives, addressed the statement on X, posting a video clip of Biden’s remarks and responding, “Is Hunter Biden sniffing powdered milk?” — an apparent reference to Biden’s past admissions of drug use.

The comments from Biden came during an appearance on the “Channel 5” podcast hosted by Andrew Callaghan.

In the interview, Biden criticized current U.S. immigration policy and foreign cooperation, referring specifically to the Central American nation’s handling of deported illegal aliens.

“These guys think that we need to run away from all values in order for us to lead,” Biden said. “I say, f**k you. How are we getting those people back from f**king El Salvador?”

Biden continued, “Because I’ll tell you what, if I became president… I would pick up the phone and call the f**king president of El Salvador and say, ‘You either f**king send [illegal immigrants imprisoned in CECOT penitentiary] back or I’m going to f**king invade.’”

He then accused both President Trump and President Bukele of committing a “f**king crime” and described the two as “f**king dictator-thug[s].”

Bukele’s response referenced Biden’s past statements regarding drug use, including a 2021 interview with CBS in which he admitted, “I probably smoked more Parmesan cheese than anyone you know,” in the context of describing his crack cocaine addiction.

Following his initial response, Bukele posted a news article outlining a recent trilateral prisoner exchange involving the United States, El Salvador, and Venezuela.

The agreement included El Salvador’s cooperation in transferring Venezuelan nationals held in its CECOT mega-prison facility back to Venezuela in exchange for the release of American detainees held by the Maduro regime.

“Maduro’s regime was satisfied with the exchange agreement; that’s why they accepted it,” Bukele wrote.

He added that while Caracas now expresses “outrage,” it is not due to objections over the deal itself, but because “they just realized they are left without hostages from the most powerful country in the world.”

As part of the swap, ten Americans — either citizens or legal permanent residents — who had been detained in Venezuela were released, according to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

“Until today, more Americans were wrongfully held in Venezuela than any other country in the world,” Rubio said in a statement.

“It is unacceptable that Venezuelan regime representatives arrested and jailed U.S. nationals under highly questionable circumstances and without proper due process.”

El Salvador’s role in facilitating the deportation of Venezuelan nationals and assisting in the return of American detainees was also acknowledged by U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Response Adam Boehler, who referred to Bukele as a “good friend” of the United States in a publicly released clip.

Bukele, who has aligned closely with President Trump’s mass deportation policies and has maintained a working relationship with key U.S. officials, has not responded further to Hunter Biden’s remarks beyond his initial comments and social media posts.

The CECOT prison in El Salvador, officially known as the Center for the Confinement of Terrorism, was opened under Bukele’s administration and houses thousands of gang members and other criminal detainees.

Several of those detained had entered the United States illegally before being returned and detained under bilateral deportation agreements.

At present, Hunter Biden holds no public office and has not officially declared any political ambitions, but his public commentary in interviews has generated national attention, particularly when addressing international relations and immigration enforcement issues.
