Elon Musk used Independence Day to unveil the framework for a potential third-party movement, following his sharp criticism of the recently passed One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as reported by the New York Post.

The billionaire entrepreneur suggested launching the “America Party” to challenge the current two-party political structure in Washington.

Tesla CEO and X owner Elon Musk gestures on stage as he prepares to speak inside the Capital One arena on the inauguration day of Donald Trump’s second Presidential term, in Washington on January 20, 2025.

“Independence Day is the perfect time to ask if you want independence from the two-party (some would say uniparty) system!” Musk posted on X.

He followed the message with a poll asking, “Should we create the America Party?” By mid-afternoon, more than 62% of respondents had voted “yes.”

Musk, 54, outlined a targeted strategy: focusing on flipping just two or three Senate seats and eight to ten House districts.

He argued that this narrow approach could provide enough leverage to determine the outcome of key legislation and ensure it reflects what he called “the true will of the people.”

The idea comes as Musk intensifies his opposition to President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which passed through Congress with narrow Republican majorities.

Musk has publicly called the legislation “pork-filled” and “a disgusting abomination,” warning it could add $3.9 trillion to the national deficit over the next decade.

“What good is Doge saving $160B when this bill increases the debt ceiling by $5T? It makes [a] mockery of the work,” Musk posted earlier in the week, referencing his role in the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), an initiative from Trump’s first term focused on cutting wasteful federal spending.

While Musk has cited fiscal concerns, Trump allies argue that Musk’s criticism is driven more by provisions in the bill that reduce Biden-era green energy tax credits—an area directly tied to Musk’s electric vehicle company, Tesla.

“Utterly insane and destructive,” Musk wrote last week about the legislation. “It gives handouts to industries of the past while severely damaging industries of the future.”

Musk has recently aligned with lawmakers who opposed the bill, including Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.). Massie, one of only two Republicans to vote against the bill, now faces primary threats from Trump-backed challengers.

Musk has hinted at supporting Massie’s re-election bid in 2026.

During the 2024 election cycle, Musk donated $290 million to support Trump’s campaign and aligned GOP efforts, according to financial disclosures. He currently holds an estimated net worth of $405 billion.

Republicans now hold a 53–47 Senate majority and a 220–212 advantage in the House. With legislative margins this narrow, Musk’s proposed “America Party” could serve as a swing coalition in future Congressional sessions.
