Elon Musk has stepped back from his efforts to launch a new political party and is instead signaling that he will direct his financial support toward Vice President JD Vance’s expected 2028 presidential campaign, according to a report from The Wall Street Journal.
Musk, who previously announced plans for the “America Party,” has reportedly decided to turn his attention back to his companies and avoid further clashes with Republicans.

Given this is WSJ, I have no idea if this is true.

Trump’s Sovereign Wealth Fund: What Could It Mean For Your Money?
The decision follows months of speculation about whether the billionaire entrepreneur would attempt to mount a third-party challenge to the traditional two-party system.

Musk, who spent nearly $300 million supporting President Donald Trump’s successful 2024 campaign, had a public falling out with the president earlier this year after posting on X that “Trump is in the Epstein files.”
Trump and Musk exchanged threats over business and government contracts in the months that followed.
With Trump term-limited, Musk is now aligning with Vance, whom he and other technology executives view as a likely Republican frontrunner for 2028. Palantir CEO Peter Thiel, former PayPal COO David Sacks, Roku CEO Anthony Wood, and entrepreneur Palmer Luckey are among the major donors already contributing to Vance’s political efforts.
Recent polling shows Vance in a strong position for the Republican nomination.
Musk has been in direct contact with the vice president in recent weeks, according to the Journal.
Despite Musk’s announcement of the America Party on July 4—following an online poll in which 65.4 percent of respondents voted in favor—the organization never advanced beyond its initial launch.
The party lacked ballot access, organizational infrastructure, and outreach to third-party groups.
“So my hope is that by the time of the midterms, he’s kind of come back into the fold,” Vance told The Gateway Pundit when asked about Musk’s political plans.
Mark Cuban, who had previously expressed support for Musk’s third-party concept, said he has not heard further updates.
Libertarian National Committee Chair Steven Nekhaila said attempts to coordinate with Musk were met with silence.
“It doesn’t seem like anything has been in action, neither at the state level or at the ground level,” Nekhaila said.
Musk’s associates reportedly canceled a July meeting with organizers who specialize in third-party campaigns, indicating he wanted to refocus on business operations at Tesla, SpaceX, and other ventures.
The discussions surrounding Musk’s political involvement come as Vance has increased his own national profile.
BREAKING 🚨JD Vance just called on Elon Musk to come back into MAGA before the Midterms. HUGE

On June 11, the vice president traveled to Rupert Murdoch’s ranch in Montana, where he met with Murdoch, his son Lachlan, and senior Fox News executives. Montana State Auditor James Brown, who helped coordinate the trip, confirmed the meeting and said Vance and his wife, Usha, later went hiking in the state.
Details of the conversation between Vance and the Murdochs were not disclosed.
Although Musk and Trump’s dispute earlier this year centered on federal contracts and subsidies connected to SpaceX, Neuralink, The Boring Company, and other ventures, the relationship has eased.
In July, Trump said he wanted Musk’s companies to succeed.
“Everyone is stating that I will destroy Elon’s companies by taking away some, if not all, of the large scale subsidies he receives from the U.S. Government. This is not so!” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“I want Elon, and all businesses within our Country, to THRIVE, in fact, THRIVE like never before! The better they do, the better the USA does, and that’s good for all of us.”

Trump also joked during an interview that his administration could turn the Department of Government Efficiency, known as DOGE, against Musk.
“We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon,” Trump told Daily Mail.
While Musk had originally declared, “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” the project has stalled, and his attention has shifted to supporting Vance as the vice president positions himself as Trump’s successor.
