I’m sad to say that I can’t join the Elon Musk boycott of Netflix, mostly because I had already canceled my subscription a few months back for non-ideological reasons: I hadn’t used it in quite a while, and spending hundreds of dollars on subscription services I don’t use is wasteful and annoying.
But I sympathize with the sentiment and hope that Musk’s efforts pay dividends beyond saving people a lot of money, as they surely will.
Elon is famously mercurial. He spent over $40 billion buying Twitter largely because he was annoyed at the company for bouncing the Babylon Bee from its feed. The Babylon Bee is funny, so when it disappeared, he discovered that raving leftist censors ran the company, and he didn’t like that.
His anger at Netflix has a cause similar in kind. He was rightly triggered by this:
🚨 If you haven’t cancelled @netflix yet, use this as your justification:
“Dead End: Paranormal Park” is targeted for ages 7+, which pushes trans ideology. See for yourself! pic.twitter.com/D4rREAuhf2

Netflix’s annoying tendency to race and gender swap historical and fictional characters doesn’t rise to the level that promoting the sterilization and mutilations of children does, so that practice hasn’t inspired cancellations, but rather a lot of mildly amusing memes.
Watch what your kids are watching.

Promoting transgender ideology is a whole other level and deserves a boycott.

Consumer rebellions have become a thing on the right, and surprisingly, they work for conservatives much better than they ever have for leftists, who have engaged in them for as long as I have been alive. I remember boycotts of orange juice, Coke, diamonds, grapes, and countless other products, and none of them amounted to much.
You will never guess who the creator of this show is… a he/they lgbtq bluesky fan who mocked Charlie’s m*rder and called him a nazi

Not so with conservative boycotts, which are relatively new. Bud Light found out the hard way that annoying conservatives is a bad business move, as did Target and Cracker Barrel. Target doesn’t even have much of a conservative fan base compared to other similar companies, but obviously, they have enough buying power to make a dent in corporate profits.
BREAKING 🚨 The mass cancelation of Netflix is happening thanks to Elon Musk. Keep it going 🔥 pic.twitter.com/jvHEWss8zi

It’s difficult to estimate the scale of the movement to cancel Netflix. Bud Light is a commodity product easily replaced, and Target is hardly irreplaceable. Obviously, there are other streaming services, but Netflix is not as easily replaced with a substitute. That makes a boycott less attractive to people.
IT GETS WORSE…
Transformers Earthspark, a show for CHILDREN on @Netflix, also promotes the use of made-up pronouns like “they/them.”
Parents, this is what your children are watching.

A fair number of people in the cultural elite are at least somewhat insulated from consumer backlashes. It’s not like Broadway plays or musical acts will be deeply harmed if a large chunk of the public dislikes them; their appeal is niche enough that public backlash might even help sales.
A Netflix show, CoComelon, features interracial gay dads attempting to raise a baby as transgender who make the toddler dance for them in drag. This is the woke version of Bacha Bazi. pic.twitter.com/Yv1vwgHSTl

But movies and streaming services are not so insulated. Disney has been suffering from its dive into the depths of woke, and we’ll have to see if Netflix, which depends on subscribers and is very sensitive to relatively small shifts in consumer behavior, is similarly harmed.

Consumers can obviously avoid these offensive shows, but the point is not to propagandize you and I; it is to raise a generation of gender revolutionaries, and Netflix is willing to lose money on these shows and subsidize their production with your subscription dollars.
Do you want to support that?
It’s up to you. I already canceled my subscription because it wasn’t worth the money, so I have no advice to give on that one.
