Podcast host Joe Rogan defended President Donald Trump and Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) chair Elon Musk’s decision to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), citing wasteful spending and corruption within the agency.
Rogan discussed the controversial closure on his Thursday show, criticizing the left-wing media for ignoring questionable financial practices and instead focusing solely on USAID’s positive contributions.
Rogan highlighted what he called USAID’s excessive funding of left-wing and LGBTQ causes abroad, noting the billions of dollars funneled into initiatives that he argued did little to benefit American taxpayers.

“I don’t think I really grasped it until Elon’s six wizards— they brought in some young wizards to go in there and go in the books, and they are just finding crazy sh*t!” Rogan said.
“It’s crazy and it’s so interesting, I was listening to a left-wing podcast today — I like to mix it up, you know, I listen to all kinds of different stuff — and it was like I was listening to a different world. They weren’t even talking about all this corruption and all this obvious buying of influence. Instead, they were talking about aid overseas and how people are gonna starve.”
Rogan pointed to specific examples of USAID’s spending, including $1.5 billion directed toward LGBTQ-related causes in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The agency reportedly provided Guatemala with a $2 million grant to fund sex change operations and support LGBTQ activism.
In addition, USAID allocated $17 billion in foreign aid to Ukraine and distributed tens of millions of contraceptives worldwide in fiscal year 2022, including 65.5 million condoms, over 9 million injectable birth control products, and more than 300,000 IUDs.
Rogan expressed skepticism over the lack of media coverage regarding these expenditures.
“It’s very strange that the media’s ignoring it, especially the left-wing media,” Rogan continued.
“It’s just too much of a win for the right, and so they’re just ignoring it and then they’re just highlighting the good things that USAID did, which I’m sure they probably did. Probably had to do some good things to at least justify its existence.”
During Wednesday’s show, Rogan praised Musk’s leadership at DOGE and Trump’s decision to appoint him to reduce federal waste.
Rogan described Musk’s approach as taking a “business model” to government operations, uncovering inefficiencies, corruption, and questionable financial practices within USAID and other federal agencies.
“We’re seeing right now with this whole USAID thing where they’re uncovering massive amounts of corruption and waste… just a lot of weird shady sh*t with NGOs and where an enormous amount of money is going,” Rogan explained.
He noted that Musk was challenging the status quo by refusing to allow political interests to maintain inefficient programs.

President Trump appointed Musk as DOGE chair to fulfill a campaign promise to cut wasteful spending and streamline federal agencies.
Musk, who has criticized USAID in the past, announced on Monday that the agency would be shut down and told employees to begin working remotely.
By Friday, staff were informed they would be placed on leave. Secretary of State Marco Rubio was named acting director at the agency in the interim.
The decision sparked outrage among Democrats, who gathered outside the Department of Treasury on Tuesday to protest the closure. Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters (CA) delivered a fiery speech denouncing Musk’s role in the government, while Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) threatened to “set fire” to the Republican Party, calling Musk a “Nazi nutball baby” and a “godless, lawless billionaire.”
However, some Democratic strategists have cautioned the party against doubling down on defending USAID.
David Axelrod, a former Obama adviser, warned that Democrats’ staunch support for foreign aid and agencies like USAID could alienate working-class voters who are already shifting away from the party.
Even CNN is laughing at them.

As Democrats grapple with the political fallout, Rogan’s remarks reflect growing frustration over government spending and increasing calls for accountability, particularly as Musk and Trump continue reshaping federal operations.
