Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee praised Elon Musk’s leadership in the Trump administration on Friday, calling his work to uncover government waste “the greatest thing in my lifetime.”

During an appearance on Fox Business’ The Evening Edit, Huckabee expressed strong support for Musk and the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which has been at the forefront of efforts to eliminate wasteful federal spending.
“Donald Trump is keeping a promise. He said he was going to do it, and he did it, and he’s doing it. And I love what’s going on,” Huckabee said.
“Elon Musk and the group of young guys that I call the ‘revenge of the nerds,’ it’s the greatest thing that’s happened probably in my lifetime in relation to the federal government.”
Dennis Quaid’s #1 Warning for Americans
Huckabee noted that enthusiasm for these efforts is not limited to Washington insiders but extends to Americans across the country.
“I think if you get about 30 miles from the beltway, people are dancing in the streets and celebrating,” he said.
“It’s finally a moment where you’ve got government people who are looking into how the taxpayer’s money is being spent. I think people are ecstatic about it.”
He also suggested that Musk and his team deserve national recognition for their efforts.
“I think all these guys ought to get a presidential medal for going in and finding this ridiculous amount of spending,” Huckabee said.
“Now, sure, there’s some good things the government does, and I don’t want to minimize that. I appreciate that our government does things that we want them to do, we need them to do, but let’s do those things and not the stupid stuff.”
DOGE has already made significant moves, including the dismantling of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
The agency, long criticized for mismanaged foreign aid spending, is now being restructured under Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
Musk’s agency is also reviewing spending within the Department of Education and the Department of Defense.
The reforms have sparked legal challenges from public employee unions, particularly over buyout programs and workforce reductions.
A federal judge recently delayed the deadline for employees to respond to Trump’s proposal, extending it until next Monday.
Democratic opposition to DOGE’s actions has intensified since Musk’s February 3 announcement regarding USAID.
Protests have erupted in Washington, D.C., with some Democratic legislators hurling insults at the president and others calling for the Senate to be “shut down.”
Despite pushback from Democratic lawmakers, polling suggests that the public largely supports the administration’s actions.
A CBS News poll released Sunday found that 53% of Americans approve of Trump’s presidency so far, with 70% stating that he is fulfilling his campaign promises.
With Musk and DOGE continuing their cost-cutting initiatives, the battle over government spending appears far from over.
However, as Huckabee noted, many Americans outside of Washington see it as a long-overdue correction to years of unchecked federal waste.
