During Pam Bondi’s confirmation hearing for U.S. Attorney General, Senator Eric Schmitt (R-MO) delivered a scathing critique of the Democratic Party’s alleged politicization of the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Schmitt outlined a pattern of bias among Democratic Attorneys General and accused the Biden administration of coordinating politically motivated investigations against former President Donald Trump and his allies.
Schmitt began by addressing what he described as the Democratic Party’s harmful fixation on Trump.

“I don’t think my Democrat colleagues learned very much from the November 5 election. The American people rejected all this. Their obsession with President Trump didn’t bode well for them electorally,” he said.
“If they stay on this path, they’ll be in a permanent minority.”
The senator criticized the recent history of Democratic Attorneys General, calling them “perhaps the most biased, politically biased AGs we’ve had in modern political history.”
He provided specific examples, starting with Eric Holder, who famously referred to himself as President Barack Obama’s “wingman.”
Schmitt emphasized, “Eric Holder bragged about it. He bragged about it.”
Schmitt also referenced former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, who met privately with Bill Clinton on a tarmac while Hillary Clinton was under investigation.
Additionally, he accused current Attorney General Merrick Garland of leading “the most politicized, weaponized Department of Justice we have ever seen.”
Schmitt detailed several instances of what he described as coordinated attacks on Trump by the DOJ and the White House.
He pointed to Special Counsel Jack Smith’s actions, labeling him an “overzealous and disgraced special prosecutor” who has been “slapped down by courts for overcharging and taking an overtly political position.”
Schmitt highlighted the FBI raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate, describing staged photos of documents for dramatic effect.
He contrasted this with the lack of consequences for Joe Biden’s own handling of classified documents, which were found in unsecured locations, including his garage.
“Boxes of documents were in Joe Biden’s garage from his Senate days,” Schmitt noted, adding that Biden’s son Hunter Biden had access to the premises.
Schmitt criticized the handling of Hunter Biden’s legal issues, including a plea deal that was ultimately rejected by a judge.
“The Department of Justice went out of its way in documents to try to get him absolved of all potential crimes in the plea deal,” Schmitt said.
He further alleged that President Biden intervened to ensure leniency for his son, calling it “Plan B.”
The senator accused the Biden administration of coordinating with the DOJ on politically charged cases.
He mentioned Jonathan Su, Biden’s Deputy White House Counsel, and Jay Bratt, who worked on classified document cases. Schmitt also raised concerns about Matthew Colangelo, a former DOJ official who joined Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office.
“Why would the number three person go do that? Maybe there was coordination,” Schmitt said.
He extended his criticism to the Fulton County case led by District Attorney Fani Willis, noting that a senior member of her team had met with White House officials.
“Why would the White House care about a case in Atlanta?” Schmitt asked.
“The truth is, as everybody knows, it was on full display. This was the worst case of lawfare we’ve ever seen.”
Schmitt concluded by comparing the actions of the Biden DOJ to those of authoritarian regimes.
“If this was happening in another country, our State Department would be warning us about it. It’s banana republic stuff,” he said.
Praising Bondi’s nomination, Schmitt expressed confidence in her ability to restore impartiality to the DOJ.
“One of the reasons why I’m so glad that you have been put up and nominated for this position is that I think you have the ability to level set,” he said, contrasting her approach with what he described as the “lack of independence” shown by Merrick Garland and Eric Holder.
