Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is facing scrutiny after independent journalist Nick Sortor claimed to have overheard him making compromising statements while dining at a steakhouse in the Four Seasons Hotel in Washington, D.C. on Monday night.
Sortor, who was seated at a neighboring table, alleges that Swalwell was “inebriated” and “immediately compromised” by a group of individuals he had just met, whom Sortor referred to as lobbyists.
According to Sortor, the congressman revealed personal details about his marriage, made explicit comments about his preferences, and even discussed seeking help to cheat on his wife.
Elon Musk Called This Financial News ‘Terrifying’
Sortor shared his account on X, stating that he sat next to Swalwell for 90 minutes and heard him discussing highly inappropriate topics.
“EXCLUSIVE: Eric Swalwell PANICS when I ask about his Chinese spy girlfriend Fang Fang, and whether that’s a bigger ‘national security threat’ than Elon Musk,” Sortor posted.
He continued, “I sat next to a drunk Swalwell at dinner for 90 minutes. He was IMMEDIATELY compromised by a group of lobbyists he’d JUST MET, spilling intimate details about his job and asking for HELP CHEATING ON HIS WIFE.”
Sortor also claimed that Swalwell bragged about ‘orgies’ on Capitol Hill and expressed dissatisfaction with his marriage, reportedly stating that he “only wants to f**k tens.”

Although Sortor alleges he has audio recordings of the conversation, he has not yet released them, possibly awaiting legal guidance.
Washington, D.C. is a one-party consent jurisdiction, meaning recordings made without Swalwell’s knowledge may still be legally admissible.
In addition to his claims about Swalwell’s conversation, Sortor also recorded a video confrontation with the congressman as he exited the restaurant.
The footage reportedly shows Swalwell’s reaction when asked about his past ties to Christine Fang (Fang Fang), the Chinese spy with whom he was previously linked.
Sortor has not yet identified the individuals Swalwell was dining with, nor has it been confirmed whether they were lobbyists.
However, if the congressman had just met them that evening and was openly discussing sensitive matters, it raises serious questions about his judgment.
This is not the first time Swalwell has faced scrutiny over his behavior.
He previously came under fire for his connections to Christine Fang, a suspected Chinese intelligence operative who allegedly developed ties with several U.S. politicians.
Sortor pointed to these past concerns in his post, calling Swalwell a “MASSIVE national security threat” and stating that “this guy should have his clearances revoked.”

Swalwell has not publicly responded to the allegations or the footage taken by Sortor.
Swalwell’s reported comments and behavior, if confirmed, could lead to renewed calls for an investigation into his conduct.
The House Ethics Committee has the authority to examine matters related to improper relationships with lobbyists, misconduct in public, and national security risks.
It remains to be seen whether Sortor will release the full audio recording of Swalwell’s alleged statements.
For now, the claims have ignited fresh controversy surrounding the California congressman, putting him once again under the political spotlight.
