President Donald Trump responded Friday to news of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert being canceled by CBS, using his Truth Social account to express satisfaction with the network’s decision, as reported by Fox News.
“I absolutely love that Colbert got fired,” Trump wrote. “His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert! Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”

The network attributed the cancellation to financial challenges facing the late-night landscape, stating, “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
Colbert, a vocal critic of President Trump since taking over The Late Show from David Letterman in 2015, frequently used his platform to promote Democratic figures.
In recent months, Colbert featured appearances from New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani and, on Thursday—the same day his cancellation was announced—Senator Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
CBS is part of Paramount Global, which is currently undergoing a corporate transition. Its merger with Skydance Media is expected to be finalized later this year.
The uncertainty around that deal has fueled speculation about changes across Paramount’s television properties, including other late-night shows such as Comedy Central’s The Daily Show.
Earlier this week, Colbert referenced the speculation during his monologue, joking, “Some of the TV typers out there are blogging that once Skydance gets CBS, the new owners’ desire to please Trump will ‘put pressure on late-night host and frequent Trump critic Stephen Colbert.’
OK, but how are they going to put pressure on Stephen Colbert… if they can’t find him?”
Despite CBS’s denial of political influence, Colbert’s remarks came just days after he criticized the network’s parent company for settling a lawsuit with Trump, which he described as a “big fat bribe.”
Meanwhile, Fox News Channel’s Gutfeld! continues to dominate the late-night ratings. Hosted by Greg Gutfeld, the show averaged 3 million viewers and 365,000 in the 25–54 age demographic during the second quarter of 2025.
COLBERT CANCELED!
Trump broke Colbert’s brain — now his show’s DEAD.

That performance has outpaced competitors including The Late Show, The Daily Show, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and NBC’s The Tonight Show and Late Night with Seth Meyers.
Trump concluded his post by praising Gutfeld’s success, underscoring what he called the “collapse of the liberal late-night propaganda machine.”
