Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended President Donald Trump’s immigration policy during an appearance on Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” responding to criticism that mass deportations would negatively affect the U.S. job market.

Noem joined host Maria Bartiromo to discuss the administration’s immigration enforcement priorities.

WASHINGTON – MAY 27, 2014 – Real estate mogul Donald Trump speaks to a luncheon at the National Press Club.

She emphasized that the Trump administration is carrying out the agenda that was central to the President’s 2024 campaign platform and supported by voters at the ballot box.

“The President is doing exactly what he campaigned on and what the American people elected him to do, and that’s enforce the law. And so we are going to do mass deportations. We are focusing on dangerous criminals. We are going out there and ensuring that people that repeatedly break our laws are being held accountable.”

Bartiromo addressed growing concern among critics who argue that stepped-up deportations could lead to worker shortages in some industries.

“You have got globalists out there who are saying, ‘Oh, they’re going to arrest people who have jobs and that’s going to impact the jobs market, and then we’re not going to have the people to do the jobs we need,’” Bartiromo said, asking Noem how she would respond to those arguments.

Noem reiterated that her agency is prioritizing enforcement against repeat offenders and individuals who pose threats to public safety.

She also pointed out that immigration laws are set by Congress, and that any adjustments to guest worker or visa programs would need to come through legislative channels.

“I would say and remind everybody that Congress directs what our laws are,” Noem said.

“They can change our programs. They can raise visa programs and guest-worker programs. They can make it easier for us. We have suggestions. And I am using all the authority that I have to meet our workforce needs.”

She also criticized sanctuary policies and argued that ignoring immigration enforcement undermines public safety and fairness in the labor market.

“We need to make sure that our communities are safer again,” Noem said. “And those that think we can ignore these sanctuary cities and ignore laws so that we can keep somebody in a job is absolutely ridiculous. That’s not what America is about.”

Noem added that illegal immigration has resulted in American citizens being denied employment opportunities and resources.

“We have a workforce and a generation of people here in the United States that have been cheated out of jobs because of the illegal immigrants that have come into this country and then taken advantage of housing programs and food programs and have had taxpayers pay their expenses,” she said.

“It’s not right. It’s not fair. And it’s time Americans come first, our citizens come first, and that our economy thrives because we are making sure that opportunities abound for those who live in this country.”

The comments come amid growing debate over the Trump administration’s immigration enforcement strategy, which includes expanded deportation operations and crackdowns on sanctuary jurisdictions.

The Department of Homeland Security has stated that it is prioritizing individuals who have committed serious crimes or who have ignored repeated orders to leave the country.

Noem’s remarks reflect the administration’s focus on implementing existing immigration laws while also pressing Congress to consider changes to legal immigration pathways.
