EXCLUSIVE: ‘It Makes Them Go Nuts’ — Candidate Daniel Keenan Vows To Target Big Pharma For Creating Trans Shooters

Republican congressional candidate Daniel Keenan is pledging to go after the pharmaceutical industry, accusing it of fueling violence by medicating transgender shooters.

Keenan, who is running to succeed Republican Arizona Rep. Andy Biggs, said lawmakers must act “immediately” and outlined a plan to roll back Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) protections for medical professionals. He argued that doctors who prescribed powerful drugs for profit should face civil litigation from victims. “There’s gonna be a target on my back, if you will, by a few groups, but I believe so strongly in it that I don’t care,” Keenan told the Daily Caller. “Look — I would say the folks who are committing these atrocities and violent crimes should be stripped of their HIPAA protections. HIPAA is designed, in my eyes, for law‑abiding citizens, not for people who go out there and commit mass casualties.”

Keenan argued the root of the problem lies with the pharmaceutical industry itself rather than the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) oversight of psychiatric drugs.

“I think the issue stems more as the industry is growing to almost $5 billion now,” he said. “It seems like the pharmaceuticals and healthcare providers are now looking at this as an opportunity to make lifelong customers instead of really getting them the care they need.”

A UCLA Williams Institute study found that 81% of transgender adults in the U.S. have reported suicidal thoughts, 42% have attempted suicide, and 56% have engaged in self-harm.

The Arizona candidate called for a congressional inquiry into what he described as rising violence linked to overmedication.

“What we’re seeing is a rise in violent attacks by these certain groups of individuals and they’re not being dealt with the right way,” Keenan said. “A lot of healthcare professionals are taking the political correctness side of it — just pumping these individuals up with drugs and sending them back into society.”

He pointed to a Swedish study, “Long-Term Follow-Up of Transsexual Persons Undergoing Sex Reassignment Surgery: Cohort Study in Sweden,” claiming the data shows transgender individuals are 19 times more likely to be “suicidal, violent than their counterparts.”

Keenan pointed to several mass shootings in recent years involving suspects who identified as transgender — including the Covenant School attack in Nashville, the STEM School Highlands Ranch shooting near Denver and the Annunciation Catholic School shooting in Minneapolis. He attributed the violence to what he called medical negligence that encourages the belief people are born in the wrong body.

A strong supporter of the Second Amendment, Keenan said he backs security measures at soft targets like schools and churches but argued the deeper issue is the medication given to those diagnosed with gender dysphoria. He added that while his child’s school has armed security, many others do not.

“We really need to get to the root problem, and I think it’s we’re allowing transgender folks to take these drugs — and the studies show it makes them go nuts,” Keenan said.

He said the issue has become the “talk of the town” in Arizona, especially among young mothers, and that he also hears concerns from people he meets in Washington.

“It’s continuing to fester and get worse,” he said.

Keenan argued that while Arizona promotes school choice, it has paid less attention to parental involvement in children’s healthcare. He voiced concern about cases where parents push for their children to receive hormonal treatments.

“In many ways, parents who advocate for [sex-change treatments], I think they’re really just wanting their children to be happy, but what they’re failing to see is they’re making irreversible changes to their child,” he said. “That’s just gonna continue to be worse in the long run from what we’re seeing.”

Keenan said that many lawmakers are “scared” to challenge pharmaceutical companies and medical providers profiting from gender-affirming care, though he believes some are willing to take up the fight. (RELATED: Ohio LGBT Activists Want To Make Sure Gender-Confused Kids Only Have One Option)

“I don’t care. I don’t take any money from any pharmaceutical companies, so I know it’s the right thing to do — and someone’s got to start somewhere,” he said.
