EXCLUSIVE: Tim Burchett Joins House Republican Study Committee

Republican Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett has officially joined the longest running conservative caucus, the House Republican Study Committee (RSC), the Daily Caller has learned.

RSC Chairman August Pfluger welcomed the social media phenomenon as the newest edition to the caucus, calling the Tennessee congressman a “straight shooter” and “true conservative.” (RELATED: Tim Burchett Signals He’d Take Blackburn’s Senate Seat If She Becomes Governor)

“Rep. Tim Burchett is a straight shooter and a true conservative, and his decision to join the RSC couldn’t come at a better time,” Pfluger said. “As we gear up for major battles on reforming health care and making America more affordable, we need members who walk the walk on fighting for hardworking families. Our caucus has been at the forefront of every major battle this Congress, and I couldn’t be more fired up to have Tim in the fight with us.”

Burchett’s move to join the largest caucus on Capitol Hill comes as it shifts its focus to healthcare reform, the potential for a second reconciliation package, and efforts to lower everyday costs for Americans. Affordability is expected to be a central theme of both initiatives and is a top priority for Burchett, closely aligning with the aggressive legislative agenda the RSC plans to pursue.

“Thank you to Chairman Pfluger for inviting me to join the Republican Study Committee. Under his leadership, RSC has championed conservative principles that Make America Great again, while promoting fiscally responsible legislation. I am thrilled to join,” said Burchett

The former Tennessee state legislator and Knox county mayor joined Congress in January 2019. Burchett has made a name for himself with his southern quips and staple Carhartt coat and his distinctive approach to social media compared to most other members of Congress. Burchett embraces a stripped-down, authentic social media strategy, often recording himself directly on his phone to share unscripted, real-time thoughts on the issues of the day, giving followers an unfiltered look into his day-to-day life serving in the halls of congress and back on his farm in Tennessee’s 2nd District.

The RSC markets itself as a resource hub that provides members with “the tools and research” needed to produce and advance policies it says benefit Americans. It also serves as a gathering point for like-minded lawmakers to coordinate, promote shared priorities and “challenge the status quo.”

The caucus has taken official positions on reconciliation legislation that reduces the federal budget deficit and reinforcing President Donald Trump’s agenda to secure U.S. borders, counter radical gender and DEI policies, and eliminate government waste through the Republican-controlled Congress.

The RSC Steering Committee has also criticized Democrats over the “longest government shutdown” and placed responsibility on the party for “deepening the healthcare crisis sparked by Obamacare.” The group says it is committed to delivering a more “accessible” and “affordable” healthcare system, while rejecting COVID-era subsidies. The caucus further emphasizes the role of limited government, arguing that “more government is the problem, not the solution” to the issues facing the United States.
