EXCLUSIVE: Tommy Tuberville Unveils Bill To Protect Women’s Sports At Military Academies
SHARE

Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville will introduce legislation Monday afternoon to bar biological males from participating in women’s sports programs and activities at U.S. military academies, the Daily Caller News Foundation has learned.

Tuberville’s legislation would direct Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to prohibit biological males from joining women’s sports teams at the United States Military Academy at West Point, the Naval Academy and the Air Force Academy. The bill’s introduction comes as the Alabama Republican has introduced multiple pieces of legislation to preserve female athletes’ Title IX rights and has frequently spoken out against “wokeness” in the military under former President Joe Biden. Tuberville announced his candidacy for the 2026 Alabama gubernatorial race in May and is viewed as the runaway favorite for the Republican nomination. He is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC) and has played a leading role in Congress in unveiling legislation to keep biological males out of girls and women’s sports.

“Our military academies should be focused on preparing the next generation of leaders, not woke indoctrination,” Tuberville said in a statement obtained by the DCNF. “Allowing men to compete against women in sports at any level is wrong — and it’s especially wrong to use taxpayer dollars to pay for it at our service academies.”

Tuberville in March led the fight to pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, which would have mandated that federally-funded educational institutions bar transgender athletes from women’s sports, locker rooms and other female-only spaces. The bill failed to pass the Senate after every Democratic senator opposed the Title IX protection measure.

The Alabama Republican also unveiled the Protection of Women in Olympic and Amateur Sports Act in February. The legislation would bar biological men from participating in any Olympic event intended for females. If passed, the women’s sports bill would prevent California from allowing transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports during the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

A spokesperson for Tuberville told the DCNF the Alabama Republican is hoping to attach the women’s sports legislation regarding U.S. military academies to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2026. The NDAA is an annual defense policy bill that allows Congress to set priorities and authorize funding levels for the U.S. military.

Due to the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster, Tuberville’s legislation will need at least some Democratic buy-in to clear the upper chamber. The Alabama Republican is calling on the Senate to pass legislation protecting female athletes’ Title IX rights, arguing that a future Democratic administration could undo President Donald Trump’s executive order on women’s sports.

“As a proud grandfather to Rosie Grace, this is personal for me,” Tuberville said. “I said I won’t stop fighting for the protection of women and girls’ sports, and I will continue until the rights of females in this country to enjoy safe, fair competition are protected.”
