In a shocking turn of events, two explosions rattled the Praça dos Três Poderes in Brazil’s capital, Brasília, right in front of the Supreme Court Palace.

As reported by The Gateway Pundit, the attack came just ahead of the high-profile G-20 summit set to take place in Rio de Janeiro, where leaders from across the globe are expected to convene.

The explosive incident left one man dead, reportedly the perpetrator, and sparked immediate responses from Brazilian security forces, including measures to shoot down unauthorized drones circling the area.

According to G1, a Brazilian news outlet, the twin explosions occurred within mere seconds of each other in the early evening on Wednesday, November 13. Security personnel swiftly cordoned off the area, while teams of firefighters and military specialists in explosive ordnance responded to the scene.

The explosions unfolded near Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court, which shares the square with the National Congress and Presidential Palace, symbolizing the core of Brazil’s governmental power.

The incident escalated when a vehicle exploded in a parking area between the Supreme Court building and Annex IV of the Chamber of Deputies. Witnesses reported seeing fireworks and bricks in the car’s trunk. Authorities, including bomb squads, conducted extensive sweeps around the area to search for additional explosives, even examining the deceased man’s body as a precaution.

No details have yet emerged about what triggered the blasts in the vehicle.

Meanwhile, political leaders were immediately escorted out for safety. Lawmakers and Supreme Court justices, who were still in session, were safely evacuated from the buildings.

Notably, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was not at the Presidential Palace during the explosions but later held an emergency meeting with Supreme Court ministers Alexandre de Moraes and Cristiano Zanin at the Alvorada Palace.
