SiriusXM host Megyn Kelly stated on Monday that President Donald Trump’s victory was a response from the American people against institutions that misled them during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show, she argued that the election outcome was, in part, a backlash against the policies and misinformation surrounding the pandemic.

“By the way, the election of President Trump was a middle finger to all these institutes too. In part, it was America saying, ‘F you and what you did to us. You lied to us over the most consequential things affecting our lives, our health care, our loved ones dying and our ability to see them, our children and their wellness in schools,’” Kelly said.

She went on to criticize the prolonged COVID-19 policies that persisted under the Biden-Harris administration, despite the initial “15 days to slow the spread” initiative beginning under Trump’s first term. Kelly specifically targeted institutions for enforcing masking mandates on children and imposing widespread restrictions.

“The masking on toddlers, nonstop. F you. You’re all fucking fired! All of you fired,” she added.

“So it’s like it’s all baked in. Now The New York Times has to try to whitewash what it did. So you’ll believe it when it tells you that [HHS Director] Kennedy’s evil and you need to trust them, [you] need to trust The Times.”

Kelly’s comments were sparked by a discussion of a recent New York Times op-ed, which acknowledged that Americans were misled about COVID-19’s origins.

The paper had long dismissed the possibility that the virus came from a lab, labeling it a “conspiracy theory” and amplifying scientists with conflicts of interest who supported the natural origin claim.

Throughout the pandemic, The Times consistently sided with narratives pushed by public health officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, who repeatedly rejected the lab leak theory.

However, in April 2023, the paper reversed course, publishing a report admitting it had uncovered evidence of a Chinese censorship campaign designed to suppress information about COVID-19’s origins.

Kelly accused The Times of attempting to “cleanse their own hands” in preparation for Trump’s return to office.

Despite mounting evidence and shifting media narratives, Dr. Anthony Fauci has maintained that a natural origin for COVID-19 is more likely than a lab leak.

In a June 2024 interview with MSNBC, he reiterated this stance, downplaying the lab leak hypothesis.

Fauci’s credibility has been repeatedly questioned over his handling of the pandemic, with critics pointing to his early dismissal of the lab leak theory and his evolving positions on masking, vaccines, and lockdowns.

Kelly’s remarks reflect ongoing frustration among many Americans who felt misled by government agencies, public health officials, and major media outlets during the pandemic.

With Trump now set for another four years in office, the political and media landscape continues to react to the fallout from COVID-19 policies and the handling of the virus’s origins.
