FACT CHECK: Contrary To Claim, Tesla Not Involved In Road Rage Incident

A viral video shared on X claims to show a road rage incident between two drivers, one of whom is purportedly driving a Tesla.

Verdict: False

Neither individual is driving a Tesla. A truck bed is visible at the video’s 0:38-second mark, and Tesla Cybertrucks do not feature a truck bed.

Fact Check:

Sixteen Tesla electric cars appear to have been destroyed as a result of possible arson at a dealership in Rome, according to The Associated Press. Italian police are investigating the incident, the outlet reported.

The X video, which has received over 700,000 likes as of writing, claims to show a road rage incident between two drivers, one of whom is purportedly driving a Tesla.

In the video, the driver in the right lane makes an obscene gesture at the individual who is purportedly driving the Tesla. The pair trade vulgar insults, and the driver in the right lane accuses the other driver of “not paying attention.” The driver in the right lane then begins recording the incident on his phone and appears to hit a pedestrian as he continues to film while making a turn.

“Oh God, he just hit somebody,” the individual who is purportedly driving the Tesla says. A truck bed is visible at the video’s 0:38-second mark.

Besides X, the claim circulated on Instagram, where it also went viral.

The claim is false. The driver in the left lane is not driving a Tesla. Check Your Fact reviewed Tesla’s website, and its Cybertruck does not feature a truck bed. Likewise, the driver in the right lane does not appear to be driving a Tesla, either. The vehicle does not match Tesla’s Model S, Model 3, New Model Y, or Model X electric cars. In addition, Tesla CEO Elon Musk has not referenced the purported road rage incident on his verified X account @elonmusk. Tesla also has not issued a press release or a social media statement regarding the incident.

Finally, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 28, Lead Stories debunked the claim, indicating neither vehicle involved in the apparent road rage incident was a Tesla.
