FACT CHECK: Did Elon Musk Make An X Post About ‘MAGA,’ Nazi Germany?

An advanced search of Musk’s verified X account, @elonmusk does not generate the purported remark, and there is no other evidence supporting the claim.

Wisconsin-based meteorologist Sam Kuffel was reportedly fired for slamming Musk and claiming he made the Nazi salute during Inauguration Day festivities at Capital One Arena, according to Fox News. “You f— with this and this man, I don’t f— with you. Full stop,” Kuffel wrote in a social media post,” the outlet reported.

“What can I say? I got caught up in the moment. But it wasn’t a ‘seig heil.’ Why would I pledge allegiance to a nation 80 years dead? Why would I lionize a subdued and failed state? MAGA is the future, and will, in fact, succeed in all the ways Nazi Germany failed to,” the purported X post from Musk reads.

The post references a gesture Musk made during remarks at Capital One Arena on Inauguration Day 2025 that some people have interpreted as a “Nazi-style salute,” according to The Washington Post.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact performed an advanced search of Musk’s verified X account, @elonmusk, and did not find the purported remark referenced there. Likewise, President Donald Trump does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim.

In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. PolitiFact, Lead Stories, and Logically Facts all debunked the claim. According to Politifact, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) labeled Musk’s gesture as “awkward” but “not a Nazi salute” in a post shared via their verified X account. Musk made the gesture after thanking the crowd inside Capital One Arena and saying, “My heart goes out to you,” PolitiFact reported.
