Verdict: False
The claim stems from satire.
Fact Check:
Greene is preparing to lead a House subcommittee focused on wasteful spending, saying the department will target funding for “sex apps in Malaysia,” The New York Post reported. She also set her sights on funding for National Public Radio and the Pentagon, according to the outlet.
A post shared on X, formerly known as Twitter, purports Greene claimed that the Democrats would have control of Congress if more people stepped down for similar reasons to Gaetz. The post included an image of Green in a black blouse, sitting in a leather chair.
The post reads, “Marjorie Taylor Greene :”if every member of Congress had to resign for doing what Matt Gaetz has been accused of, Democrats would have a supermajority.”
The claim is inaccurate. There is no credible news report that suggests Greene made this statement. There is no record of Greene making this statement on any of her social media accounts. The claim stems from a satirical social media account called Halfway Post. The account features a clear disclaimer that reads, “Halfway true comedy and satire by @DashMacIntyre. I don’t report the facts, I improve them.” (RELATED: Marjorie Taylor Greene Post Claims ‘ABC Whistleblower’ Died In Car Crash)
