A post shared on Facebook allegedly shows a massive riot that took place during a Black Friday sale.
The caption reads, “This is what Black Friday door busting deals looks like in Chicago.”
The claim is inaccurate. The video dates back to May 2020 when Ben Pope, a reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times, posted the video on his X account.
It was taken during a riot that occurred after the death of George Floyd. Riots and looting occurred in many cities at this time, according to Fox News.
Some reports indicate that riots occurring after Floyd’s death caused over $1 billion in damages, Axios reported. Protests took place in 140 U.S. cities. The number of insurance claims surpassed the record set in 1992 with the riots that occurred in response to police brutality against Rodney King.
