FACT CHECK: House Budget Resolution Does Not Include No Taxes On Tips And Overtime

A post shared on X claims the recently passed House budget resolution includes no taxes on tips and overtime.

BREAKING: The House just voted to pass the budget resolution backed by President Trump, which will include $4.5 TRILLION in tax cuts, such as no taxes on tips, overtime, & social security.

The final vote will be 217-216 *if all three remaining Dems vote*

Verdict: Misleading

There are no specific proposals in the House budget resolution about cutting taxes on tips, overtime and Social Security.

Fact Check:

The House passed a budget resolution that would call for cutting taxes by $4.5 trillion and a decrease in government spending by $1.5-$2 trillion, according to The New York Times. (RELATED: Claim That Trump Plans To Invalidate Biden’s Student Loan Forgiveness Program Is Satire)

Social media users are claiming that the resolution includes no taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. One user wrote, “BREAKING: The House just voted to pass the budget resolution backed by President Trump, which will include $4.5 TRILLION in tax cuts, such as no taxes on tips, overtime, & social security. The final vote will be 217-216 *if all three remaining Dems vote…” reads part of one user’s wrote.

This claim is misleading. No media outlets have reported that the budget resolution included no taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security. The New York Times reported the resolution “puts a $4.5 trillion upper limit on the size of any tax cuts over the next 10 years, but does not dictate which taxes should be reduced, a complex and politically tricky question of its own that could take months to sort out.”

The budget resolution doesn’t mention any specific tax proposals. It states, “Any recommendations on changes in law within the jurisdiction of the Committee shall be consistent with the goals of this concurrent resolution, including with respect to spending reduction, tax policy changes, reforms, or other measures deemed appropriate by the chair of the Committee on the Budget of the House.”
