FACT CHECK: Instagram Video Makes False Claim About Abortion Clinics, ‘Democrat Sex Strike’

A video shared on Instagram claims abortion clinics have purportedly warned they’ll go “bankrupt” if a “recent Democrat sex strike” continues.

Verdict: False

The claim is false and originally stems from a Nov. 10 article published on “The People’s Voice,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.”

Fact Check:

Planned Parenthood recently filed a lawsuit blocking Arizona’s 15-week abortion ban, which passed in 2022 ahead of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, according to Reuters. In the Nov. 5 general election, Arizona voters passed an amendment allowing abortions to take place until “fetal viability,” or around 23-24 weeks gestation, the outlet reported.

The Instagram video, which has garnered over 2,000 likes as of writing, claims abortion clinics have purportedly warned they’ll go bankrupt if a recent Democrat “sex strike” continues.

“Abortion Clinics Warn They’ll Go Bankrupt if Democrat ‘Sex Strike’ Continues,” a screenshot of a headline featured in the video reads. A label included on the video indicates it originally stems from TikTok.

The claim is false and originally stems from a Nov. 10 article published on “The People’s Voice,” a website that is known for spreading “fake news.” A “Liability Disclaimer” included on the site’s “Terms of Use” page indicates it “makes no representations about the suitability, reliability, availability, timeliness, and accuracy of the information, software, products, services and related graphics contained on the site for any purpose.”

The site, which has previously been known as “NewsPunch” and “YourNewsWire,” is described as “one of the most well-known purveyors of fake news online,” according to a 2019 article from Mashable.

Likewise, although the article does mention a recent “sex strike” occurring among Democratic women following President-elect Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, it does not provide any evidence to support the claim that abortion clinics have warned they’ll go bankrupt as a result.

In addition, Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Planned Parenthood’s website or its verified social media accounts.

Furthermore, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Nov. 27, PolitiFact debunked the claim. (RELATED: Did Trump Say He Will Restore Election Integrity In Nigeria?)

The post-election “sex strike” seems to be inspired by the South Korean 4B movement in which straight women do not date, marry, have children, or have sex with men, according to CNN.
