According to USA Today, the claim stems from LinkedIn and is satire. The outlet also pointed out that tariffs apply to goods that are imported, not exported.

Fact Check:

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen recently reiterated that Greenland is “not for sale” but would be open to having more American troops on the island, according to Fox News. President Donald Trump has previously expressed interest in buying Greenland, which is controlled by Denmark, the outlet reported.

The screenshot of the X post shared on Instagram claims Denmark is purportedly planning to charge Americans a 500% tariff on Ozempic.

“Denmark has responded to Trump’s demand to annex Greenland. They will now charge Americans a 500% tariff for Ozempic, a popular diabetes and weight loss drug. They will also offer Canadians a 50% discount. The World collectively is saying F–k Trump,” the post reads. The original iteration of the post shared on X went viral and amassed over three million views.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find a press release on Frederiksen’s website responding to the claim. Frederiksen also does not appear to have referenced the claim via her verified social media accounts. Likewise, Trump has not publicly commented on the claim via his personal or government X accounts or his TRUTH Social account.

In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On Feb. 5, USA Today debunked the claim. According to USA Today, the claim stems from LinkedIn and is satire. The outlet also pointed out that tariffs apply to goods that are imported, not exported.
