FACT CHECK: No, Donald Trump Did Not Criticize Keir Starmer Over A 100-Year Deal Between The UK And Ukraine

A video shared on Facebook claims President Donald Trump purportedly criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over a 100-year deal between the U.K. and Ukraine while speaking with podcaster Theo Von.

Verdict: False

While Trump did sit down with Von for an interview back in August 2024, he did not mention Starmer or the U.K.’s 100-year deal with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. According to Full Fact and Logically Facts, the video’s audio has been “digitally edited.”

Fact Check:

Trump will impose a 25% on goods from Canada and Mexico and a 10% tariff on goods from China, according to the White House, NBC News reported. The move is in response to “the illegal fentanyl that they have sourced and allowed to distribute into our country which has killed tens of millions of Americans,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said, the outlet indicated. The Facebook video claims Trump purportedly criticized Starmer over a 100-year deal between the U.K. and Ukraine while speaking with Von.

“Did you hear this? The U.K. government just signed the deal to send $300 billion to Ukraine over the next 100 years. That’s right, $300 billion. Meanwhile, in the U.K., around 10,000 people die every year because they can’t afford to heat their homes,” Trump appears to say in part.

Trump also appears to accuse Starmer of “prioritizing foreign aid over the well-being of British citizens.” The video opens with a clip of Trump talking to Von before transitioning to photos of Starmer and Zelenskyy.

The claim is false. While Trump did sit down with Von for an interview back in August 2024, he did not mention Starmer or the U.K.’s 100-year deal with Zelenskyy. Likewise, Trump does not appear to have publicly referenced the claim via his personal or government X accounts, his TRUTH Social account, or his verified social media accounts. In addition, neither Starmer nor Zelenskyy have commented on the claim.

Check Your Fact also did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. U.K.-based outlet Full Fact and Logically Facts both debunked the claim, indicating the video’s audio had been “digitally manipulated,” as Trump did not mention Starmer or the U.K.-Ukraine deal in his interview with Von.
