FACT CHECK: No, Fani Willis And Alvin Bragg Have Not Been Disbarred

A video shared on Facebook claims Fulton County, Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg have purportedly been disbarred.

Verdict: False

Both district attorneys are able to practice law, according to the State Bar of Georgia and the New York Unified Court System’s websites, respectively. There is no evidence that either has been disbarred.

Fact Check:

Willis began her second term in office just weeks after Donald Trump was sworn in for his second term as president, according to NPR. Willis expressed no regrets at having prosecuted Trump while delivering remarks at a recent gala, the outlet reported.

The Facebook video, which has received over 1,000 likes as of writing, claims Willis and Bragg have purportedly been disbarred. “DA Fani Willis And Alvin Bragg DISBARRED & CHARGED After Trump Drops BOMBSHELL Announcement,” text overlay on the video reads.

The video shows a congressional hearing, and New Jersey Republican Rep. Jeff Van Drew discusses Willis and Bragg’s efforts to prosecute then-2024 Republican candidate Donald Trump.

The claim is false. While the original video shows a House Subcommittee on Oversight hearing about “Ending the Weaponization of the Justice Department,” there is no reference to the claim about Willis and Bragg purportedly having been disbarred. Van Drew does not repeat the claim when discussing Willis and Bragg’s efforts to prosecute Trump, either.

Likewise, Willis’ status is listed as “active” on the State Bar of Georgia’s website. Bragg’s status also indicates he is “currently registered” to practice law, according to the New York Unified Court System’s website via the Attorney Online Services search function.

In addition, the two district attorneys do not appear to have issued a statement responding to the claim. Trump also has not commented on the claim.

Furthermore, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 3, Lead Stories debunked the claim. (RELATED: Did Maine Gov. Janet Mills Say Her State Will Stop Paying Federal Taxes?)

Check Your Fact has contacted Willis’ and Bragg’s offices for comment.
