An image shared on X claims to show a photo taken in Bulgaria masquerading as a photo taken on Mars.

There is no evidence of this claim. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has denied the claim.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming that an image taken in Bulgaria was then changed to show an image of Mars. One user wrote, “NASA keeps faking space to make you believe you can go to other ‘planets’!” (RELATED: Viral X Image Does Not Show Authentic Truth Social Post From Trump About ‘Ending Tariffs’)

This claim is false. Check Your Fact searched through NASA’s Mars media library and did not find the image in question. A reverse image search found that the bottom image does show a location in Bulgaria.

A NASA spokesperson also denied the claim to AFP Fact Check, saying, it “is not a NASA photo of Mars.”
