FACT CHECK: No, John Fetterman Is Not Switching Parties

A post shared on Facebook claims Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. John Fetterman is purportedly switching his political affiliation to the Republican Party.

Verdict: False

Fetterman denied the claim during a recent appearance on “The View,” according to Newsweek.

Fact Check:

Fetterman described President Donald Trump as “kind” and “cordial” during a recent meeting the pair shared at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence, according to The Hill. Fetterman also said the meeting was a “positive experience” while appearing on “The View,” the outlet reported.

“BREAKING: Reports say that John Fetterman is set to LEAVE the Democrat party and join Republicans next week,” the Facebook post reads. The post, which features a photo of Fetterman, does not provide a source to support its claim.

The claim is false. Fetterman denied that he was purportedly switching his political party from Democrat to Republican during a recent appearance on “The View,” according to Newsweek.

“I would make a pretty terrible Republican because, you know, pro-choice, pro really strong immigration, pro-LGBTQ…I don’t think I’d be a good fit. So, I’m not going to change my party and if I am…I’ll give you the exclusive,” Fetterman responded when asked about his “commitment to the Democratic Party” by “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Fetterman’s website or his verified social media accounts. In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true.

On Jan. 23, PolitiFact debunked the claim. The outlet cited a Jan. 20 article from Semafor in which Fetterman labeled rumors that he planned on switching his political party as “amateur hour sh-t.” (RELATED: Did Barron Trump Whisper A Comment To Joe Biden At The Inauguration?)

Check Your Fact has contacted a Fetterman spokesperson for comment.
