FACT CHECK: No, Trump Did Not Make A Truth Social Post About Annexing Greenland And Alaska

A viral image shared on X purports to show a TRUTH Social post from President Donald Trump in which he allegedly claimed he would annex Greenland and Alaska.

Verdict: False

The purported remark is not referenced on any of Trump’s verified social media accounts, including his TRUTH Social account, and there is no other evidence supporting the claim.

Fact Check:

The government of Greenland recently labeled Trump’s desire to acquire the island as “unacceptable,” according to Fox News. The Inatsisartut or Parliament of Greenland issued a statement on X saying it “cannot accept the repeated statements regarding annexation and control of Greenland,” the outlet reported.

The X image, which has received over two million views as of writing, purports to show a TRUTH Social post from Trump in which he allegedly claimed he would annex Greenland and Alaska.

“After I’ve annexed Greenland and making [sic] it the 52nd State, I will annexe [sic] Alaska. The people of Alaska don’t want to be part of a backward nation in Canada. I will make all Alaskan’s rich and prosperous when they become the 53rd State of our mighty country. Nobody in Greenland or Alaska would ever have dreamed of this under Crooked Joe Biden,” the post, which contains a typo, reads.

The claim is false. Check Your Fact did not find the claim referenced on Trump’s TRUTH Social account. Likewise, the claim does not appear on Trump’s personal or government X accounts or his verified social media accounts. In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 16, Lead Stories debunked the claim, labeling the image as “fake.”
