A video shared on Facebook claims to show Elon Musk purportedly discussing a hidden $20,000 roof grant for homeowners with Joe Rogan.
Verdict: False
The video has been manipulated using artificial intelligence (AI). In the original video, Musk and Rogan do not at any point reference the purported grant. Additionally, an AI expert denied the video’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact.
Fact Check:
Musk recently handed out two $1 million checks to Wisconsin voters ahead of their state Supreme Court election, according to The Associated Press. The state’s Supreme Court is currently controlled 4-3 by liberal justices, the outlet reported.
The Facebook video, which has received over 800 likes as of writing, claims to show Musk purportedly discussing a hidden $20,000 roof grant for homeowners with Rogan.
“So, Elon, you said that DOGE recently discovered that there is a hidden grant program for American homeowners to replace their roofs for free. How is that even possible?” Rogan appears to say in the same video.
“That’s a great question because the previous administration kept this hidden. This is an actual legit grant approved by Congress in order to fuel the housing market. Homeowners can literally qualify for up to $20,000 in grant money to replace their old roofs. For any homeowner watching this, make sure to go to the official site and fill out the simple questionnaire and you’ll be qualified instantly,” Musk appears to respond.

The claim is false, as the video appears to have been manipulated using AI. While a content detection scan using “Deepware” did not identify the video as a “deepfake,” the original video of Musk speaking with Rogan on a recent episode of his podcast does not at any point reference the purported $20,000 roof grant for homeowners. The pair does, however, discuss the sloped roof at the scene of the Butler assassination attempt on President Donald Trump.
Likewise, Check Your Fact performed an advanced search of Musk’s verified X account @elonmusk and did not find any mention of the claim. Rogan does not appear to have publicly commented on the claim, and neither Trump nor the White House has addressed the claim.
In addition, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports to support the claim. Actually, the opposite is true. On March 28, Politifact debunked the video, indicating it is AI-generated. (RELATED: Mugshot Shared Via Facebook Post Unrelated To Alleged Tesla Vandalism)
Furthermore, Dr. Walter Scheirer, an AI expert at the University of Notre Dame, denied the video’s authenticity in an email to Check Your Fact.
“This video has been edited, possibly with the use of AI, to create a scam ad. The source video is episode #2281 of the Joe Rogan Experience. A fake audiotrack has been added, and the mouths of Rogan and Musk appear to have been edited. There are some artifacts (e.g., around second 12, when the microphone seemingly attaches to Rogan’s chin) near the mouths of the subjects in the video that indicate the editing,” Scheirer said.
