FACT CHECK: Video Of Mexican Flag Being Raised At ICE Facility In Colorado Is Not Recent

A video shared on TikTok purports to show a Mexican flag being raised at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Colorado recently.

The video was originally shared on X in 2019 by reporter Matt Mauro. It is not recent.

Fact Check:

Federal ICE agents conducted immigration raids, hitting at “least three locations in the Bronx,” according to the New York Daily News. At least two people were taken into custody following the raids, the outlet reported.

The TikTok video purports to show a Mexican flag being raised at an ICE facility in Colorado recently. In the video, the flag is seen being raised on a flagpole in front of a building with a blue and brown exterior. “Americans in Colorado raised up a Mexican Flag at [an] ICE Facility,” text superimposed on the video reads.

The claim is false. The video was originally shared on X in 2019 Mauro and is not recent.

“Protestors on @ICEgov property just pulled down the American flag and replaced it with the Mexican flag. The group by the doors is growing. Though most protestors are still on the street,” the video’s caption reads. The same building with the blue and brown exterior is visible in the X video.

The video was included in a July 2019 article from the Denver Post, and the outlet indicated the protestors gathered ahead of alleged federal immigration roundups that were set to occur in Denver at the time.

Likewise, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports suggesting the TikTok video is recent. Actually, the opposite is true. On Jan. 27, Reuters debunked the claim, indicating the clip was from 2019. According to the outlet, then-President Donald Trump had vowed to launch “mass deportation roundups” over the weekend of July 13-14, 2019, but only “low-profile operations” occurred in “a few U.S. cities.”

ICE recently made a total of 1,179 arrests, with 52% being “criminal arrests,” according to NBC News.
