Trump has not formally announced a deal to acquire Greenland via his official website, TRUTH Social account, or verified social media accounts. In addition, there is no other evidence to support the claim.
Fact Check:
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Greenland is “not for sale” in response to Trump’s comments about acquiring the island, according to Fox News. Frederiksen made the statement during an interview with a Danish TV station, the outlet reported.
The X post, which has amassed over 10 million views as of writing, claims Trump has worked out a deal to buy Greenland. “BREAKING: Reports emerge that Trump has a deal worked up for the Purchase of Greenland.. Developing..,” the post claims.
The claim is false. While Trump has expressed the desire to gain control of Greenland for “national security purposes,” he has not announced any formal deal to acquire the island via his official website, his TRUTH Social account, or his verified social media accounts. Likewise, Frederiksen has not repeated the claim via her website or her verified social media accounts. According to Reuters, while Greenland has been “part of Denmark for 600 years,” its “57,000 people now govern their own domestic affairs.”
In addition, Check Your Fact did not find any credible news reports to support the claim. If Trump had actually worked out a deal to purchase Greenland, multiple media outlets would’ve reported it, yet none have. In fact, the opposite is true. On Jan. 8, Snopes debunked the claim.
Although the claim made via the X post is false, Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump, Jr. recently visited Greenland, The Associated Press reported.
