Fake Donald Trump Post Triggers Stephen King Rant, Ends in Embarrassment

Author Stephen King faced heavy backlash online over the weekend after he attacked President Donald Trump based on a fake social media post that King and others believed to be real.

The viral episode quickly unraveled when users pointed out that the post King cited was satire and had never been written by the President, as reported by The Gateway Pundit.

The confusion began Sunday when King responded to what appeared to be a Trump statement about the World Series matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The fake post claimed that Trump had refused to invite either team to his ballroom, calling them “highly inept officials from California and Canada,” and adding that the series was “rigged, probably by Dems and the Mafia.”

Believing the post to be authentic, King reacted on X, writing, “Trump says he won’t invite either team playing in the World Series to the White House. He can’t rise above his petty political concerns even for the great American game. If anything shows what a louse he is, that’s it.”

Within minutes, users flooded King’s comments section, pointing out that the quote was fabricated and had originated from a parody account. Several noted that the author’s mistake was part of a recurring pattern among public figures who rush to criticize Trump without verifying information.

“Trump never posted this,” one user replied. “It’s a joke account. You fell for satire again.”

That. Was. A. Fake. Post.

Others mocked the bestselling author’s quick reaction, suggesting that he had once again confused political fiction with reality. “I know you’re an author of fiction, Mr. King, but we don’t need it here,” another commenter posted.

For those seeking confirmation, the official White House release regarding the World Series painted a completely different picture of the President’s tone. In the genuine statement, President Trump praised the sport’s history and cultural significance, writing:

“Each fall, as the World Series begins, America returns to one of its oldest and most beloved traditions. Baseball is woven into the fabric of the American story. It is a game that requires discipline, precision, and teamwork, and it unites generations through shared moments of triumph and anticipation. The World Series stands as baseball’s crowning moment, where players rise to the occasion and fans across the country share in the excitement beneath the bright lights.”

The incident added to a growing list of high-profile missteps from celebrities and commentators who have fallen for satirical or altered content involving President Trump.

The backlash against King’s mistaken attack highlighted how quickly misinformation spreads online and how easily it can backfire on those eager to criticize without checking the facts.
